The discovery brief

Where they look

A use-case search, not a product-category search

What they ask

"backpack that fits a 16 inch laptop and carry-on legal"

Why you are missing

Your listing gives dimensions in a table and never says "carry-on"

01

The story

Tom sells bags and travel accessories — around 700 products across backpacks, luggage, wallets and small leather goods. His photography is strong and his specs are complete. They are also, almost entirely, inside a specification graphic that a search engine reads as an image with no alt text.

His buyers search by job: a backpack that takes a sixteen-inch laptop, a cabin bag legal on a specific airline, a camera insert with a certain volume, a wallet slim enough for a front pocket. Each is a precise query with a precise answer, and none of those answers existed as text on his site.

He moved the dimensions into descriptions, published the capacity questions as FAQ schema, and generated alt text on every spec image. The searches did not change. The matching did.

02

When SEO decides the sale

Three beats. Everything StoreSEO does on this page is aimed at the gap between the second and the third.

  1. 1

    The search

Bags are searched by job to be done: laptop size, cabin dimensions, litres, nappy capacity, camera fit.

  2. 2

    The check

Dimensions and capacity are compared against a specific object the buyer already owns.

  3. 3

    The decision

Whoever stated the answer plainly wins. Whoever hid it in a spec image loses to them.

03

What a store like this actually needs

01

Dimensions and capacity as text

A spec graphic is invisible to a crawler. The same numbers written into the description are a match for hundreds of very specific queries.

02

Use-case framing

People search the job the bag does, not its category. Laptop size, cabin legality, litre capacity and fit for named objects are the real query set.

03

Gift-season readiness

A large share of the year's revenue arrives in a few weeks, and the pages need to be optimized well before that window opens.

04

The fix

Three StoreSEO capabilities that do most of the work here. Each links to the guide that sets it up.

AI description generator

Writes descriptions that state capacity, dimensions and fit in plain text rather than leaving them locked inside a graphic.

Read the guide

FAQ schema

Publishes the "will it fit" questions as structured data, which is precisely the format an AI assistant quotes.

Read the guide

Image optimizer with AI alt text

Compresses and describes spec graphics and product shots so the visual detail becomes readable and the pages stay fast.

The exact prompt

Connect your store via the StoreSEO MCP server or the AI Toolkit, then paste this into Claude or ChatGPT. It is written for this business, not as a generic template.

Copy & paste
Using StoreSEO, my bag specifications live inside spec images that search engines cannot read. Rewrite my product descriptions so every bag states its dimensions, capacity in litres, laptop fit and cabin-bag suitability as plain text. Add FAQ schema answering the common "will it fit" questions, generate alt text for all images including spec graphics, and run the image optimizer. Show me which products now state their measurements and which still do not.

What happens: Your assistant lifts every measurement out of a graphic and into indexable copy, then publishes the fit questions as schema an assistant can quote.

06

Questions

My specs are in a nicely designed image. Is that a problem?

For SEO, yes. Search engines read text, so measurements that exist only inside a graphic cannot match the very specific queries buyers use. Keep the graphic for the human and repeat the numbers in the description and FAQ schema for the crawler.

What is the highest-value thing to fix on a bag catalog?

Stating capacity, dimensions and fit in text. Bag searches are unusually literal — a laptop size, a litre count, a cabin dimension — so a page that contains those exact figures becomes eligible for a large number of long-tail queries immediately.
