The discovery brief

Where they look

A fitment search: year, make, model, engine, or an OEM number

What they ask

"brake pads 2019 civic 1.5t front OEM 45022-TBA"

Why you are missing

Your listing names the part and never lists the vehicles it fits

The story

Dario runs an auto parts store with tens of thousands of SKUs. The defining property of every product is what it fits, and the defining property of every search is a vehicle — a year, a make, a model, an engine variant, or an OEM number that encodes all four.

His fitment data existed in a lookup widget that ran on the page and was invisible to crawlers. His product titles named the part and the brand. The searches that should have landed on exactly the right product landed nowhere.

Bringing fitment ranges and OEM cross-references into the product text, clustering the part-number vocabulary, and controlling which variants entered the sitemap made a very large catalog match a very specific search pattern.

02

When SEO decides the sale

Three beats. Everything StoreSEO does on this page is aimed at the gap between the second and the third.

  1. 1

    The search

Every automotive search is a fitment search: year, make, model, engine, or a part number that encodes all of it.

  2. 2

    The verification

Wrong fitment is a returned part and a lost customer, so buyers confirm before clicking, not after.

  3. 3

    The reorder

A correctly matched part makes you the default supplier for that vehicle for years.

03

What a store like this actually needs

01

Fitment data as indexable text

A JavaScript fitment lookup is invisible to a crawler. The vehicles a part fits need to appear in the description.

02

OEM and cross-reference numbers

Part numbers are among the highest-intent searches anywhere, and they only match if they appear on the page.

03

Crawl control on an enormous catalog

Tens of thousands of near-identical variants make sitemap discipline essential rather than optional.

The exact prompt

Connect your store via the StoreSEO MCP server or the AI Toolkit, then paste this into Claude or ChatGPT. It is written for this business, not as a generic template.

Copy & paste
Using StoreSEO, my auto parts catalog keeps fitment data in a lookup widget that search engines cannot read. Rewrite product titles, meta content and descriptions so each part states the vehicles it fits by year, make, model and engine, plus its OEM and cross-reference numbers. Generate keyword clusters for fitment and part-number searches, review sitemap inclusion for superseded variants, and show me how many products now state a fitment in text.

What happens: Your assistant lifts fitment out of a widget and into the page, which is the difference between a catalog that matches part searches and one that does not.

Questions

My site has a fitment lookup tool. Is that not enough?

It is good for shoppers and largely invisible to search engines. A lookup that runs in the browser does not put the vehicle names into the indexable content, so a search naming a specific year, make and model has nothing to match. Keep the tool and also write the fitment into the description.

Should OEM part numbers appear in my listings?

Yes. Part-number searches are the highest-intent queries in the category because the buyer knows exactly what they need. Including OEM and cross-reference numbers in the title and description makes those searches land on the correct product.
