Run your Shopify SEO from any AI agent
The StoreSEO MCP server is a remote Model Context Protocol endpoint at mcp.storeseo.com/mcp that lets an AI agent read and improve your Shopify store's SEO. Connect the assistant you already use, approve your store once, and audit products, rewrite meta, fix image alt text, publish llms.txt and track rankings by asking in plain words.

The one URL every client uses
https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp
- 1
Add the server
Paste the StoreSEO MCP URL into your client as a remote server over streamable HTTP. Chat apps call this a custom connector; terminal agents take a one-line command.
- 2
Approve your store
Your client opens a browser window. Pick the Shopify store and approve access. StoreSEO issues the client its own credentials, so there is no token to paste. Clients without OAuth can send a personal access token from Settings, AI Toolkit instead.
- 3
Ask
Start with a question about your store. The agent opens a StoreSEO session first, which hands it a snapshot of your SEO scores, image status and setup, then works from there.
StoreSEO is the AI SEO Agent for Shopify merchants — a Shopify app that optimizes your store for Google and gets it cited by ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity.

How do you connect an agent to StoreSEO?
Three steps in every client. The agent pages show the exact command or menu for each one.
Add the server
Paste the StoreSEO MCP URL into your client as a remote server over streamable HTTP. Chat apps call this a custom connector; terminal agents take a one-line command.
https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp
Approve your store
Your client opens a browser window. Pick the Shopify store and approve access. StoreSEO issues the client its own credentials, so there is no token to paste. Clients without OAuth can send a personal access token from Settings, AI Toolkit instead.
Approve StoreSEO for your-store.myshopify.com
Ask
Start with a question about your store. The agent opens a StoreSEO session first, which hands it a snapshot of your SEO scores, image status and setup, then works from there.
Show me my five lowest-scoring products and what is wrong with each.
Which way should you connect?
The same MCP server for every client. What differs is how the client signs in, plus one assistant that lives inside Shopify.
MCP server with OAuth
- Best for
- Claude, ChatGPT and any client that supports remote MCP sign-in
- Sign-in
- Pick your store in Shopify and approve once
- What you get
- All 44 tools, scoped to the store you approved
MCP server with an access token
- Best for
- Terminal agents and editors, or any client without OAuth
- Sign-in
- Generate a named token in Settings, AI Toolkit and send it as a Bearer header
- What you get
- The same 44 tools; revoke the token in the app to cut access
Shopify Sidekick
- Best for
- Merchants who stay inside Shopify admin
- Sign-in
- Nothing to add: StoreSEO is installed in your store
- What you get
- SEO answers and deep links to the fix page, not the MCP tools
What can an agent do without asking?
What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Plans, credit and quota
- The MCP server works on any active StoreSEO plan, including the free plan. A store with no active plan gets a message with a link to choose one in the app.
- Keyword rank tracking and competitor tracking are Pro plan tools.
- Search Console and Google Analytics reports need a paid plan with Google connected in the app.
- Image compression needs the Image Optimizer add-on and counts against its monthly quota.
- Generated content (meta, FAQs, AI snippets, alt text, file names, descriptions, keyword clusters, llms.txt, agents.md and blog drafts) spends AI Content Optimizer credit.
Questions
What is the StoreSEO MCP server?
It is a remote Model Context Protocol server at https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp. An AI agent connected to it can read your Shopify store's SEO scores and settings and, when you agree, apply optimized meta, image alt text, schema, sitemap and discovery-file changes through 44 tools.
Which AI agents can connect to StoreSEO?
Any client that can add a remote MCP server over streamable HTTP. This hub has setup guides for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot in VS Code and more, each checked against the vendor's documentation.
Do I need an API key to connect?
No. Clients that support OAuth open a browser window where you pick your Shopify store and approve access, and StoreSEO issues that client its own credentials. A personal access token from Settings, AI Toolkit is the alternative for clients that cannot complete a sign-in.
Will the agent change my store without asking?
Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Which StoreSEO plan do I need for the MCP server?
Any active plan works, including the free plan. Keyword rank tracking is Pro only, Google reports need a paid plan with Google connected, image compression needs the Image Optimizer add-on, and generated content spends AI Content Optimizer credit. See the pricing table for the current plans.
Can the agent write my product descriptions?
Yes, product by product. StoreSEO first scores the description for AI shopping agents and asks you a few questions, then rewrites it from your answers and saves it straight away. There is no undo, so the response carries the only copy of the old text.
Does StoreSEO publish anything on my storefront?
Only when you ask. Generating llms.txt writes to your live theme and Shopify Files, generating agents.md publishes it live immediately, and the HTML sitemap is created in your store. Blog posts are only ever saved as drafts for you to publish from Shopify admin.
How do I disconnect an agent?
Remove the server in your client, and revoke the connection or the access token in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected client is listed.
