How do I connect Claude to StoreSEO?

Add StoreSEO as a custom connector

In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, choose + Add and then Add custom connector. Name it StoreSEO and paste this URL as the remote MCP server URL.

Approve your store

Claude opens the StoreSEO sign-in in your browser. Pick your Shopify store and approve access. Then start a new chat and ask this to confirm the connection works.

Sign-in

What is Claude?

Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant. You use it in a browser at claude.ai, in the Claude Desktop app and in mobile apps, and it can answer questions, write and analyze, and take actions through connected tools.

Custom connectors let you add a remote Model Context Protocol server by its URL. You add one under Customize, then Connectors, and Anthropic's documentation notes that the connection to the server originates from Anthropic's servers, not from your computer, even in Claude Desktop. The server therefore has to be reachable on the public internet.

On the Free plan you can add one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds the connector for the organization first, and each member then signs in to it from their own Connectors settings.

Why use Claude with StoreSEO?

No terminal, no config

You paste one URL, approve your store once and the StoreSEO tools appear in the chat. That suits store owners who would rather ask than open an admin page.

Good for check-ups

A chat is a comfortable place to ask what is wrong with your store's SEO and what to fix first. Reads such as scores and reports run straight away, so the answers come from your real store data.

Control over which tools run

Claude lets you switch tools off from its Search and Tools menu, and StoreSEO tells the agent to preview and ask before it writes anything, so you can keep a conversation to reads only.

Good to know

The Free plan allows one custom connector, so StoreSEO takes that slot. Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans allow more.
On Team and Enterprise, members cannot add a custom connector themselves: an owner adds it under Organization settings, Connectors, and members then authenticate from Customize, Connectors.
Claude's own prompts for write actions are the hard stop. Anthropic advises using Allow always only for servers you trust, and for StoreSEO it is safer to keep the apply, optimize, generate and delete tools on ask.
Start each conversation by checking that the connector is switched on for it in the Search and Tools menu, and turn off tools you do not need for that chat.

How do I connect Claude to StoreSEO?

Do I need a StoreSEO API key for Claude?

Any active StoreSEO plan works, including the free plan. Keyword rank tracking is a Pro feature, Google reports need a paid plan with Google connected, and generated content spends AI Content Optimizer credit.

Can I use StoreSEO in Claude on the Free plan?

Anthropic's documentation says Free users are limited to one custom connector, so you can add StoreSEO as that one connector. Check Anthropic's current plan page if you want more than one.

I am on a Claude Team or Enterprise plan. Who adds the connector?

An owner adds it under Organization settings, then Connectors, with the same URL. Members then sign in to it from their own Customize, then Connectors settings and pick their own Shopify store.

Does it work in Claude Desktop as well as on the web?

Yes. Anthropic's documentation says custom connectors work on Claude on the web, Claude Desktop and Cowork, and that the connection to the server is made from Anthropic's servers.

How do I disconnect Claude from my store?

Remove the StoreSEO connector from Customize, then Connectors in Claude, and revoke the connection in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected app is listed.
