How do I connect ChatGPT to StoreSEO?

Turn on developer mode

In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode. If your menu shows Apps and Connectors with Advanced settings instead, the same switch lives there. OpenAI lists developer mode for Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts on the web.

Create the app with the StoreSEO MCP URL

Open Plugins and select the plus button to create a developer-mode app. Name it StoreSEO, paste this as the MCP server URL and choose OAuth. Sign in when the browser asks: pick your Shopify store and approve access.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is OpenAI's AI assistant. You talk to it in a chat on the web or in an app, and it can answer questions, write and analyze, and take actions through connected tools.

Developer mode lets ChatGPT use a remote Model Context Protocol server that you add yourself, over streaming HTTP or SSE. You turn it on under Settings, then Security and login, create an app from the Plugins page with the server's URL, and pick an authentication method. OAuth can use Client ID Metadata Documents or dynamic client registration.

OpenAI's documentation says write actions require approval by default, that you can inspect the payload before they run, and that you can choose to remember the approval for the rest of the conversation. It respects the readOnlyHint annotation to tell reads from writes.

Why use ChatGPT with StoreSEO?

Good to know

ChatGPT connects from OpenAI's servers, not from your computer. The StoreSEO MCP URL is public, so there is nothing to open on your side.
Write actions depend on your ChatGPT plan. OpenAI's developer guide lists developer mode for Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts on the web, while OpenAI's help center, as we read it, puts full MCP support with write actions in beta on Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces and gives Pro accounts read access only. On a plan without write actions, use ChatGPT for audits and reports and apply fixes from the StoreSEO app or another agent.
OpenAI marks developer mode as higher risk because a connected server can read and, with write actions, change your data. Read each payload before you approve, and be careful with the option that remembers approval for the rest of a conversation.
If you do not see developer mode under Settings, Security and login, check your plan and, in a workspace, ask an admin whether it is enabled.

Not necessarily. OpenAI's help center describes workspace controls under Settings, Apps, where an admin or owner creates and publishes the app. Ask them to add https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp, then use it from your own chat.

Can ChatGPT apply changes in my Pro account?

OpenAI's help center, as we read it, says Pro accounts connect MCP servers with read access in developer mode. That is enough for audits and reports. Applying content needs a plan with write actions, or you can apply fixes from the StoreSEO app.

How do I disconnect ChatGPT from my store?

Delete the StoreSEO app in ChatGPT, then revoke the connection in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected app is listed.
