Grok + StoreSEO Illustrative session
  1. You: Is my store set up for AI answer engines? Check my llms.txt.

  2. storeseo_start read-only
  3. storeseo_get_llms_txt_status read-only
  4. Grok: No llms.txt is live yet. Generating one spends AI credit and writes to your live theme and Shopify Files. Do you want me to generate it?

  5. You: Yes, generate it.

  6. storeseo_generate_llms_txt needs approval
  7. Grok: Generated and published. I can check the status again to confirm it is serving.

StoreSEO is the AI SEO Agent for Shopify merchants — a Shopify app that optimizes your store for Google and gets it cited by ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity.

How do I connect Grok to StoreSEO?

  1. 1

    Add a custom connector

Open the connectors page on grok.com, choose New Connector and then Custom. Enter this as the MCP server URL and complete the authentication when it opens.

    URL
    https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp
  2. 2

Approve your store and check it

Pick your Shopify store in the browser and approve access. Then start a chat with the connector available and ask this to confirm the connection works.

    Prompt
Use StoreSEO to show me my store's SEO score breakdown.
  3. 3

Or have a team admin provision it Optional

Only on Grok Business and Enterprise: xAI's documentation says a team admin must first provision the connector in the cloud console before members can use it. Give the admin the same URL.

    URL
    https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp

What is Grok?

Grok is xAI's AI assistant. You use it at grok.com and in xAI's apps, and it can answer questions, search and analyze, and take actions in external tools you connect.

Connectors let Grok reach external tools and data inside a conversation. xAI's documentation says connectors are available to all Grok users and authenticate via OAuth, and that custom connectors for a remote MCP server are added from the connectors page by choosing New Connector, then Custom, and entering the server URL.

The documentation also says the MCP server must be reachable over the public internet, and that on Grok Business and Enterprise a team admin must provision a connector in the cloud console before members can use it.

03

Why use Grok with StoreSEO?

No terminal, no config

You add one URL on grok.com, approve your store once and the StoreSEO tools appear in the conversation. That suits store owners who would rather ask than open an admin page.

Ask in plain words

Ask what is weak in your store's SEO and what to fix first. Reads run straight away, so the answers come from your real store data.

Previews before writes

StoreSEO tells the agent to preview, name the cost and wait for your yes, so a generation never has to be a surprise.

04

Good to know

  • xAI's connector documentation does not describe a per-tool approval setting. StoreSEO's instruction to preview and wait for your yes is the main check in the conversation, so read what Grok proposes before you say yes.
  • On Grok Business and Enterprise a team admin has to provision the connector in the cloud console first, so you may need your admin to add it.
  • This page covers the Grok chat connector on grok.com. xAI's terminal agent is a separate client with its own setup.
  • Because Grok connects over the public internet, nothing needs to be opened on your side, but the StoreSEO sign-in must complete in a browser.

What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Questions

How do I connect Grok to StoreSEO?

Open the connectors page on grok.com, choose New Connector, then Custom, and enter https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp. Complete the sign-in in your browser: pick your Shopify store and approve access, and the StoreSEO tools become available in your chats.

Do I need an API key for Grok?

No. Grok connectors authenticate with OAuth, so you pick your store in the browser and approve access. Nothing needs to be pasted.

Will Grok change my store without asking?

StoreSEO tells the agent to preview first, say what a generation will cost, and wait for your yes before it applies content, optimizes images, changes settings, publishes a file or deletes anything. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server. xAI's connector documentation describes no separate per-tool approval setting, so read each proposal before you agree. Reads run straight away.

Which StoreSEO plan do I need?

Any active StoreSEO plan works, including the free plan. Keyword rank tracking is a Pro feature, Google reports need a paid plan with Google connected, and generated content spends AI Content Optimizer credit.

Can I use it on Grok Business or Enterprise?

xAI's documentation says a team admin must first provision a connector in the cloud console before members of the organization can use it. Ask your admin to add https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp.

Does my computer need to be reachable by Grok?

No. xAI's documentation only requires that the MCP server be reachable over the public internet, and the StoreSEO server already is.

How do I disconnect Grok from my store?

Remove the StoreSEO connector from the connectors page on grok.com, and revoke the connection in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected app is listed.
