How to Connect StoreSEO MCP to Grok
Grok is xAI’s AI assistant. You use it at grok.com and in xAI’s apps, and it can answer questions, search and analyze, and take actions in external tools you connect.
This guide connects Grok to the StoreSEO MCP server at https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp. Once connected, Grok can read your Shopify store’s SEO scores and settings and, when you agree, apply optimized meta, alt text, schema and other SEO changes. For what to ask once you are set up, see StoreSEO for Grok.
Before You Start
- Server URL:
https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp - Sign-in: Grok connectors authenticate with OAuth: when you add StoreSEO you pick your Shopify store in the browser and approve access. There is no token to paste.
- Plan: The MCP server works on any active StoreSEO plan, including the free plan. A store with no active plan gets a message with a link to choose one in the app.
- Access token (if you need one): create it in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit. Treat it like a password.
Connect StoreSEO to Grok
Step 1: Add a custom connector
Open the connectors page on grok.com, choose New Connector and then Custom. Enter this as the MCP server URL and complete the authentication when it opens.

Step 2: Approve your store and check it
Pick your Shopify store in the browser and approve access. Then start a chat with the connector available and ask this to confirm the connection works.
Use StoreSEO to show me my store's SEO score breakdown.
Other Ways to Connect
Option: Have a team admin provision it
Only on Grok Business and Enterprise: xAI’s documentation says a team admin must first provision the connector in the cloud console before members can use it. Give the admin the same URL.

Check the Connection
Start a new chat and send this prompt. Grok should call StoreSEO and answer with your store’s real SEO score.

What to Ask Grok
- Use StoreSEO to find my lowest-scoring products and tell me what is wrong with each.
- Which images in my store have no alt text? Preview alt text for five of them.
- Is my store ready for AI answer engines? Check llms.txt and my AI optimization settings.
- Show my Search Console queries from the last 28 days with high impressions and few clicks.
- Which structured data types are switched on for my store?
How Approvals Work
Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client’s own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Things to Know About Grok
- xAI’s connector documentation does not describe a per-tool approval setting. StoreSEO’s instruction to preview and wait for your yes is the main check in the conversation, so read what Grok proposes before you say yes.
- On Grok Business and Enterprise a team admin has to provision the connector in the cloud console first, so you may need your admin to add it.
- This page covers the Grok chat connector on grok.com. xAI’s terminal agent is a separate client with its own setup.
- Because Grok connects over the public internet, nothing needs to be opened on your side, but the StoreSEO sign-in must complete in a browser.
Disconnect
Remove the StoreSEO server in Grok, then revoke the connection or the access token in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected client is listed.
