How to Connect StoreSEO MCP to Claude Code

Claude Code is Anthropic’s agentic coding tool. It runs in your terminal, and in IDE extensions and a desktop app, reads the project in the folder you start it in, and works through multi-step tasks by calling tools and showing each call as it happens.

This guide connects Claude Code to the StoreSEO MCP server at https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp. Once connected, Claude Code can read your Shopify store’s SEO scores and settings and, when you agree, apply optimized meta, alt text, schema and other SEO changes. Before You Start

Server URL: https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp
Sign-in: Claude Code signs you in with OAuth: run /mcp, pick your Shopify store in the browser and approve. Claude Code stores the credentials it receives and refreshes them. If you prefer a token, generate one in StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit and add it with —header.
Plan: The MCP server works on any active StoreSEO plan, including the free plan. A store with no active plan gets a message with a link to choose one in the app.
Access token (if you need one): create it in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit. Treat it like a password.

Connect StoreSEO to Claude Code

Step 1: Add StoreSEO to Claude Code

Run this in any terminal. The user scope makes StoreSEO available in every project on your machine.

Start Claude Code, run /mcp, choose storeseo and follow the browser window: pick your Shopify store and approve access.

Option: Connect with an access token

If you cannot use a browser sign-in, generate a token in StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit and add the server with the token as a header instead.

Start a new session and send this prompt. Claude Code should call StoreSEO and answer with your store’s real SEO score.

What to Ask Claude Code

Use StoreSEO to list every product scoring under 50 and preview new meta for the first ten.
Which product images have no alt text? Write it for the ones on my top collection, one image at a time.
Is my llms.txt up to date? If not, tell me what generating a new one will change before you run it.
Show me Search Console queries for the last 28 days where we rank between 8 and 20.
Turn on product schema and tell me how many products that fixes.

How Approvals Work

Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client’s own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Things to Know About Claude Code

Without —scope user the server is added to the current project only, so it disappears when you start Claude Code in another folder.
Claude Code asks before a tool runs unless you have allowed it. If you add an allow rule for the StoreSEO tools, the confirmation StoreSEO asks for in the chat becomes the only check, so keep apply, write and generate tools on ask.
Claude Code warns when one tool result is larger than 10,000 tokens. Ask for smaller pages of products or images on a big catalog rather than raising the limit.

Disconnect

Remove the StoreSEO server in Claude Code, then revoke the connection or the access token in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected client is listed.
