How to Connect StoreSEO MCP to Claude Cowork
Claude Cowork is Anthropic’s agent for delegated knowledge work. Instead of a back-and-forth chat, you describe a task, hand it off and let Claude work through it using your connected apps, plugins and skills, then you review the result.
This guide connects Claude Cowork to the StoreSEO MCP server at https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp. Once connected, Claude Cowork can read your Shopify store’s SEO scores and settings and, when you agree, apply optimized meta, alt text, schema and other SEO changes. For what to ask once you are set up, see StoreSEO for Claude Cowork.
Before You Start
- Server URL:
https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp - Sign-in: You sign in when you add the connector: a browser window opens where you pick your Shopify store and approve access. StoreSEO supports dynamic client registration, so there is no token to paste.
- Plan: The MCP server works on any active StoreSEO plan, including the free plan. A store with no active plan gets a message with a link to choose one in the app.
- Access token (if you need one): create it in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit. Treat it like a password.
Connect StoreSEO to Claude Cowork
Step 1: Add StoreSEO as a custom connector
In Cowork, open Customize, then Connectors, choose + Add and then Add custom connector. If you already added StoreSEO to your Claude account, look for it in that list first. Use this URL.
https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp
Step 2: Approve your store and check it
Sign in when the browser opens: pick your Shopify store and approve access. Then start a task and ask this first, so you know the connector works before you delegate real work.

Other Ways to Connect
Option: Add it as an owner on Team or Enterprise
Only if you are on a Team or Enterprise plan: an owner adds the same URL under Organization settings, then Connectors, and members connect their own store from Customize, then Connectors.

Check the Connection
Start a new session and send this prompt. Claude Cowork should call StoreSEO and answer with your store’s real SEO score.

What to Ask Claude Cowork
- Use StoreSEO to audit my store’s SEO and give me a ranked list of fixes. Do not change anything.
- Preview better meta for my ten lowest-scoring products and wait for me to review them before you apply any.
- Check which product images have no alt text and summarize the damage by collection.
- Pull my Search Console insights for the last 28 days and list queries where I rank between 8 and 20.
- Check whether my llms.txt and agents.md are live and tell me what is missing.
How Approvals Work
Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client’s own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Things to Know About Claude Cowork
- A scheduled task runs without you in the conversation, so nobody is there to say yes. Keep scheduled StoreSEO tasks to reads and reports, and tell the task in plain words not to apply, generate, publish or delete anything.
- Cowork shares the custom connector model of Claude: the Free plan allows one custom connector, and on Team and Enterprise an owner adds the connector under Organization settings, Connectors.
- On Team and Enterprise plans an admin toggle controls access to Cowork, so you may need your admin to turn it on.
- If StoreSEO does not appear in Cowork, check Customize, Connectors inside Cowork and add it there rather than assuming a connector added elsewhere carried over.
Schedule a weekly SEO check in Cowork
Cowork documents scheduled tasks that run on a cadence and can use your connected apps. For StoreSEO, make the task report-only: it should read scores and reports and write you a summary. Do not ask a scheduled task to apply content, generate files or delete anything, because you are not there to say yes.
Every Monday, use StoreSEO to read my store's SEO score breakdown, my lowest-scoring products and last week's Search Console insights. Summarize what changed. Do not apply, generate, publish or delete anything.
Disconnect
Remove the StoreSEO server in Claude Cowork, then revoke the connection or the access token in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected client is listed.
