How to Connect StoreSEO MCP to OpenClaw

OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent runtime that you run on your own machine or server. You talk to it through chat apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack and Discord, or from its Control UI and CLI. It connects to MCP servers, and their tools pass through the same tool policy as everything else the agent can do.

This guide connects OpenClaw to the StoreSEO MCP server at https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp. Once connected, OpenClaw can read your Shopify store’s SEO scores and settings and, when you agree, apply optimized meta, alt text, schema and other SEO changes. For what to ask once you are set up, see StoreSEO for OpenClaw.

Before You Start

  • Server URL: https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp
  • Sign-in: openclaw mcp login prints an authorization URL. Open it, pick your Shopify store and approve. OpenClaw normally captures the redirect on a loopback address and saves the credentials on the installation that owns the connector, so scheduled automations reuse them.
  • Plan: The MCP server works on any active StoreSEO plan, including the free plan. A store with no active plan gets a message with a link to choose one in the app.
  • Access token (if you need one): create it in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit. Treat it like a password.

Connect StoreSEO to OpenClaw

Step 1: Add StoreSEO to OpenClaw

Run this on the installation that owns the connector. The —auth oauth flag marks the server as an OAuth server, which is what openclaw mcp login needs.

openclaw mcp add storeseo \
  --url https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp \
  --transport streamable-http \
  --auth oauth

Step 2: Sign in to your store

The login prints an authorization URL. Open it in a browser, pick your Shopify store and approve access. OpenClaw captures the redirect and saves the credentials.

openclaw mcp login storeseo

Step 3: Check the connection

The probe opens a live connection and reports the tools the server offers. A saved server entry proves nothing until the probe passes.

openclaw mcp doctor storeseo --probe

Check the Connection

Start a new session and send this prompt. OpenClaw should call StoreSEO and answer with your store’s real SEO score.

Use StoreSEO to show me my store's SEO score breakdown.

What to Ask OpenClaw

  • Use StoreSEO to list my ten lowest-scoring products and the top issue on each.
  • Which of my products have no AI snippet or FAQ yet? Preview them for the first three and wait for my yes.
  • Pull my Search Console queries from the last 28 days where we rank between 8 and 20.
  • Is my agents.md live? If not, tell me what generating one will publish and what it costs before you run it.
  • Every Monday at 8am, send me my store’s SEO score breakdown and the five weakest products. Change nothing.

How Approvals Work

Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client’s own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Things to Know About OpenClaw

  • Run the mcp commands on the installation that owns the connector. A Gateway or agent on another host needs its own reload, config publish or restart before it sees the storeseo server.
  • StoreSEO has 44 tools. OpenClaw lets you narrow them with openclaw mcp tools and its include and exclude options if you want a smaller set in front of the agent.
  • OpenClaw has its own per-server approval setting, openclaw mcp configure storeseo —approval followed by approve, prompt or auto. If you want the client to stop before StoreSEO writes, do not leave it on a mode that skips the check.
  • A scheduled run has nobody to say yes. Keep automations to reads and reports, and ask for changes in a message you can answer.

Send a weekly SEO report with OpenClaw automations

Automations are OpenClaw’s built-in scheduler, and openclaw cron is an alias for the same commands. This job runs every Monday in an isolated session, reads your store’s scores and announces the result in a Telegram chat. List past runs with openclaw automations runs followed by the job ID. A scheduled run should be report-only: the prompt asks for reads, because nobody is there to say yes to a write.

openclaw automations create "0 8 * * 1" \
"Use StoreSEO to report my SEO score breakdown and the five lowest-scoring products. Read only: do not preview, apply or generate anything." \
  --name "Monday SEO report" \
  --tz "Europe/Berlin" \
  --session isolated \
  --announce --channel telegram --to "-1001234567890"

Disconnect

Remove the StoreSEO server in OpenClaw, then revoke the connection or the access token in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected client is listed.
