  • Two commands: openclaw mcp add, then login
  • OAuth through your Shopify admin
  • Weekly read-only SEO reports with automations

OpenClaw + StoreSEO Illustrative session
  1. You: Is my llms.txt up to date?

  2. storeseo_start read-only
  3. storeseo_get_llms_txt_status read-only
  4. OpenClaw: Your store's settings changed after the last file was generated, so a rebuild is due. Generating writes llms.txt into your live theme and Shopify Files and spends AI credit. Generate it now?

  5. You: Yes, go ahead.

  6. storeseo_generate_llms_txt needs approval
  7. storeseo_get_llms_txt_status read-only
  8. OpenClaw: The new file is generated and live at your /llms.txt. Want me to check your agents.md next?

How do I connect OpenClaw to StoreSEO?

  1. 1

    Add StoreSEO to OpenClaw

Run this on the installation that owns the connector. The --auth oauth flag marks the server as an OAuth server, which is what openclaw mcp login needs.

    Terminal
    openclaw mcp add storeseo \
      --url https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp \
      --transport streamable-http \
      --auth oauth
  2. 2

    Sign in to your store

The login prints an authorization URL. Open it in a browser, pick your Shopify store and approve access. OpenClaw captures the redirect and saves the credentials.

    Terminal
    openclaw mcp login storeseo
  3. 3

    Check the connection

The probe opens a live connection and reports the tools the server offers. A saved server entry proves nothing until the probe passes.

    Terminal
    openclaw mcp doctor storeseo --probe

Sign-in

openclaw mcp login prints an authorization URL. Open it, pick your Shopify store and approve. OpenClaw normally captures the redirect on a loopback address and saves the credentials on the installation that owns the connector, so scheduled automations reuse them.

What is OpenClaw?

OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent runtime that you run on your own machine or server. You talk to it through chat apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack and Discord, or from its Control UI and CLI. It connects to MCP servers, and their tools pass through the same tool policy as everything else the agent can do.

Its MCP client stores server definitions in OpenClaw's configuration. You add a remote server once with openclaw mcp add, sign in with openclaw mcp login, and check it with openclaw mcp doctor and its probe option. Tool filters and a per-server approval setting are available through openclaw mcp tools and openclaw mcp configure.

OpenClaw also has a built-in scheduler called automations, with openclaw cron as an alias, that wakes the agent at set times in an isolated session and can announce the result in a chat channel. That is what sets it apart for SEO work: a report can arrive in your chat every Monday without you opening anything.

03

Why use OpenClaw with StoreSEO?

SEO from your chat app

Message OpenClaw from your phone and it calls StoreSEO for you. Ask which products dropped in score after a product import and get the answer where you already read your messages.

Reports that arrive on their own

Create an automation with a cron expression and a prompt, and OpenClaw runs it in an isolated session and announces the result in a channel. Use it for a weekly score summary or Search Console review.

A probe that tells you it works

openclaw mcp doctor with the probe option opens a live connection and lists the StoreSEO tools, so you know the sign-in worked before you trust a scheduled run.

Good to know

  • Run the mcp commands on the installation that owns the connector. A Gateway or agent on another host needs its own reload, config publish or restart before it sees the storeseo server.
  • StoreSEO has 44 tools. OpenClaw lets you narrow them with openclaw mcp tools and its include and exclude options if you want a smaller set in front of the agent.
  • OpenClaw has its own per-server approval setting, openclaw mcp configure storeseo --approval followed by approve, prompt or auto. If you want the client to stop before StoreSEO writes, do not leave it on a mode that skips the check.
  • A scheduled run has nobody to say yes. Keep automations to reads and reports, and ask for changes in a message you can answer.
05

What can you ask OpenClaw to do in StoreSEO?

Prompt 1
Use StoreSEO to list my ten lowest-scoring products and the top issue on each.
Prompt 2
Which of my products have no AI snippet or FAQ yet? Preview them for the first three and wait for my yes.
Prompt 3
Pull my Search Console queries from the last 28 days where we rank between 8 and 20.
Prompt 4
Is my agents.md live? If not, tell me what generating one will publish and what it costs before you run it.
Prompt 5
Every Monday at 8am, send me my store's SEO score breakdown and the five weakest products. Change nothing.

Send a weekly SEO report with OpenClaw automations

Automations are OpenClaw's built-in scheduler, and openclaw cron is an alias for the same commands. This job runs every Monday in an isolated session, reads your store's scores and announces the result in a Telegram chat. List past runs with openclaw automations runs followed by the job ID. A scheduled run should be report-only: the prompt asks for reads, because nobody is there to say yes to a write.

Terminal
openclaw automations create "0 8 * * 1" \
"Use StoreSEO to report my SEO score breakdown and the five lowest-scoring products. Read only: do not preview, apply or generate anything." \
  --name "Monday SEO report" \
  --tz "Europe/Berlin" \
  --session isolated \
  --announce --channel telegram --to "-1001234567890"

What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Questions

How do I connect OpenClaw to StoreSEO?

Run openclaw mcp add storeseo --url https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp --transport streamable-http --auth oauth, then openclaw mcp login storeseo. Open the authorization URL it prints, pick your Shopify store and approve. Finish with openclaw mcp doctor storeseo --probe to confirm the connection.

Do I need a StoreSEO API key for OpenClaw?

No. The login uses OAuth and OpenClaw saves the credentials it receives. If you would rather use a personal access token, generate one in StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit and send it as an Authorization Bearer header. OpenClaw's add command accepts a header option for HTTP servers.

Will OpenClaw change my store without asking?

StoreSEO tells the agent to preview, name any cost and wait for your yes before it applies content, optimizes images, changes settings, publishes llms.txt or agents.md, writes a description or deletes anything. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so OpenClaw's own approval setting for the server is the hard stop. Reads run straight away.

Which StoreSEO plan do I need?

Any active StoreSEO plan, including the free plan, can use the MCP server. Rank tracking is a Pro feature, Google reports need a paid plan with Google connected, and generated content spends AI Content Optimizer credit.

Can OpenClaw run StoreSEO checks on a schedule?

Yes. OpenClaw automations run a prompt on a cron expression and can announce the result in a chat channel. Ask for reads and reports only, because a scheduled run has nobody to answer StoreSEO's confirmation, and set the server's approval setting so a write cannot slip through unattended.

How do I check that OpenClaw can reach StoreSEO?

Run openclaw mcp doctor storeseo --probe. It opens a live connection and reports the tools the server offers. Then ask for your store's SEO score breakdown in a chat or the CLI to see a real answer.

Where does the sign-in live if OpenClaw runs on another machine?

On the installation that owns the connector. Run openclaw mcp add and openclaw mcp login there, so the credentials are saved where the agent and its automations actually run.

How do I disconnect OpenClaw from my store?

Remove the storeseo server with OpenClaw's mcp commands, for example openclaw mcp logout storeseo to drop the credentials. You can also revoke the connection in StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected app is listed.
