Run Your Shopify SEO from Kimi Code
Kimi Code is Moonshot AI's terminal coding agent, which runs the Kimi model and can call external tools through the Model Context Protocol. Connected to StoreSEO, it reads your store's SEO scores, previews optimized meta and images, and applies the changes you approve without opening the Shopify admin.
- Add the server in JSON or with /mcp-config
- OAuth through your Shopify admin, or a token header
- User or project scope for the connection

What is Kimi Code?
Kimi Code is Moonshot AI's terminal coding agent. You start it with the kimi command in a project folder, and it reads and edits files, runs commands, searches the code and fetches web pages while you watch. It runs the Kimi model, and you sign in with /login using either a Kimi Code OAuth account or a Moonshot platform API key.
It is an MCP client. Servers are listed in ~/.kimi-code/mcp.json for every project, or in .kimi-code/mcp.json for one repository, where the project entry overrides the user entry. The /mcp-config command can add, edit and delete servers without hand-editing JSON, and /mcp-config login runs the browser sign-in for servers that use OAuth.
That makes it a fit for developers and agencies who already work on a Shopify theme in the terminal. The same session that edits Liquid can audit the store's SEO, apply StoreSEO's optimized content and report the new scores.
Why use Kimi Code with StoreSEO?
One session for code and SEO
When a fix needs a theme change, such as where FAQs render or how a schema block is placed, the same session can open the Liquid file next to the StoreSEO results.
Work through the whole catalog
Ask for every product under a score and Kimi Code pages through the listing, previews several at once and gives you one summary to approve, instead of you opening products one by one.
Approvals you can see
Kimi Code shows an approval panel for tool calls and offers Approve for this session, so you decide how much of a StoreSEO run goes ahead on its own.
Good to know
- A server added while Kimi Code is open does not register until the next session starts, so restart before you run /mcp-config login.
- Kimi Code reads read-only tool calls without asking, but asks for the rest by default. The /yolo and /auto modes and Approve for this session reduce those prompts; keep apply, write and generate tools on ask so the confirmation StoreSEO asks for is not your only check.
- A project file at .kimi-code/mcp.json overrides a user entry with the same name, so a stale storeseo entry in a repository can shadow the one in your home folder.
- Older Kimi CLI builds keep their settings in a different folder than ~/.kimi-code. These steps are for Kimi Code CLI.
What can you ask Kimi Code to do in StoreSEO?
Tap a prompt to copy it, then paste it into Kimi Code.
One connection gives Kimi Code your whole store
Connect Kimi Code once. It can then read and improve every part of your store below, through the same 44 StoreSEO tools and the same approval rules.
Kimi Code guides by job

Which way should you connect?
MCP server with OAuth
- Best for
- Claude, ChatGPT and any client that supports remote MCP sign-in
- Sign-in
- Pick your store in Shopify and approve once
- What you get
- All 44 tools, scoped to the store you approved
MCP server with an access token
- Best for
- Terminal agents and editors, or any client without OAuth
- Sign-in
- Generate a named token in Settings, AI Toolkit and send it as a Bearer header
- What you get
- The same 44 tools; revoke the token in the app to cut access
Shopify Sidekick
- Best for
- Merchants who stay inside Shopify admin
- Sign-in
- Nothing to add: StoreSEO is installed in your store
- What you get
- SEO answers and deep links to the fix page, not the MCP tools
What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Questions
How do I connect Kimi Code to StoreSEO?
Add a server named storeseo with the URL https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp to ~/.kimi-code/mcp.json, either by editing the file or by running /mcp-config in Kimi Code. Start a new session, run /mcp-config login storeseo, pick your Shopify store in the browser and approve access.
Do I need a StoreSEO API key for Kimi Code?
No. Kimi Code signs in with OAuth through /mcp-config login. A personal access token from StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit is the alternative, added as an Authorization header in the server entry.
Where does Kimi Code store the StoreSEO server?
In ~/.kimi-code/mcp.json for every project on your machine, or in .kimi-code/mcp.json inside a repository, where it overrides a user entry of the same name.
Will Kimi Code change my products without asking?
StoreSEO tells the agent to preview first and wait for your yes before it applies content, optimizes images, publishes a file or deletes anything. Kimi Code also asks before running tools that are not read-only unless you chose a mode or rule that approves them. Reads such as scores and reports run straight away. Keep the write tools on ask if you want both checks.
Does Kimi Code work with the Kimi chat app?
This page covers Kimi Code CLI, the terminal agent. It connects to StoreSEO through its MCP configuration as described above. We have not checked the Kimi chat apps, so use the terminal agent for StoreSEO.
Which StoreSEO plan does Kimi Code need?
Any active StoreSEO plan, including the free plan, can use the MCP server. Rank tracking is a Pro feature, Google reports need a paid plan with Google connected, and generated content spends AI credit.
StoreSEO tools do not show up in Kimi Code. What should I check?
Run /mcp to see whether storeseo is listed and connected. If it is missing, check the JSON in ~/.kimi-code/mcp.json and any .kimi-code/mcp.json in the project, then start a new session. If it is listed but not signed in, run /mcp-config login storeseo.
How do I disconnect Kimi Code from my store?
Delete the storeseo entry with /mcp-config or remove it from mcp.json. You can also revoke the connection in StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected app is listed.
