Run Your Shopify SEO from Kiro
Kiro is an agentic IDE built and operated by AWS, where an AI agent plans and edits your project from a chat panel. Connected to StoreSEO through one entry of MCP configuration, it audits your Shopify store's SEO, previews optimized content and applies what you approve without leaving the editor.

Kiro: StoreSEO drafted a new meta title, description and FAQ for the Linen Shirt. The preview spent AI credit and nothing is saved yet. Apply it?

You: Apply it, but keep the current URL handle.

Kiro: Applied without the handle change. The product re-scored higher. Want me to look at its image alt text next?

How do I connect Kiro to StoreSEO?
- 1
Add StoreSEO to your Kiro MCP config
Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows and Linux), search for MCP and open the workspace config (.kiro/settings/mcp.json) or the user config (~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json). Paste this and save. Kiro applies the change on save, and the first connection opens a browser sign-in: pick your Shopify store and approve.
JSON{ "mcpServers": { "storeseo": { "url": "https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp" } } } - 2
Choose which StoreSEO tools Kiro may run Optional
Optional. autoApprove lists tools Kiro runs without asking, and disabledTools hides tools from the agent. The names here are real StoreSEO read tools. Keep write tools such as apply, generate and update out of autoApprove so Kiro's own prompt stays as a second check.
JSON{ "mcpServers": { "storeseo": { "url": "https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp", "autoApprove": ["storeseo_start", "storeseo_list_resources", "storeseo_get_resource_seo"] } } } - 3
Or connect with an access token Optional
If you cannot use the browser sign-in, generate a token in StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit and send it in a headers entry. Keep the file out of a public repository when it holds a token.
JSON{ "mcpServers": { "storeseo": { "url": "https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" } } } }
Sign-in
Kiro handles the browser OAuth flow for remote servers and supports Dynamic Client Registration: pick your Shopify store and approve. To use a StoreSEO personal access token instead, add an Authorization Bearer value under headers in the same entry.

What is Kiro?
Kiro is an agentic IDE built and operated by AWS. An AI agent works on your project from a chat panel, plans multi-step changes and can call tools exposed through the Model Context Protocol, including remote HTTP servers.
MCP servers are defined in JSON. A workspace file at .kiro/settings/mcp.json applies to one project and a user file at ~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json applies everywhere, with the workspace file winning when both define the same server. A remote server needs a url and optionally headers, and Kiro applies changes when you save the file.
Each server can carry an autoApprove list of tools that run without a prompt and a disabledTools list that hides tools from the agent. For remote servers that need a sign-in, Kiro handles the browser OAuth flow and supports Dynamic Client Registration.
Why use Kiro with StoreSEO?
Theme work and SEO together
Kiro already plans and edits your Shopify theme. The same session can read StoreSEO's scores, then open the Liquid file where a fix has to land.
Control over what runs unprompted
List only read tools in autoApprove and every write still reaches you twice: once as Kiro's prompt and once as the confirmation StoreSEO tells the agent to ask for.
Per project or everywhere
Put StoreSEO in the workspace file for a single store's repository, or in the user file to have it in every project you open.
Good to know
- A workspace .kiro/settings/mcp.json overrides a user-level entry with the same name, so if the sign-in seems to point at the wrong store, check which file defines storeseo.
- autoApprove with a wildcard would run every StoreSEO tool without Kiro asking, writes included. List individual read tools instead, so Kiro's prompt stays a second check.
- A token in mcp.json is a secret. Do not commit a workspace file that holds one, and revoke the token in StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit if it leaks.
What can you ask Kiro to do in StoreSEO?
Use StoreSEO to list my five lowest-scoring products and preview new meta for each.
Which product images have no alt text? List them before changing anything.
Is my llms.txt up to date? If not, say what generating a new one will publish and cost.
Show me Search Console queries for the last 28 days where we rank between 8 and 20.
Turn on product schema and tell me what that changes before you do it.
Kiro guides by job
Each guide covers one StoreSEO job end to end in Kiro: setup, prompts, an example session, the rules and the limits.
Which way should you connect?
MCP server with OAuth
- Best for
- Claude, ChatGPT and any client that supports remote MCP sign-in
- Sign-in
- Pick your store in Shopify and approve once
- What you get
- All 44 tools, scoped to the store you approved
MCP server with an access token
- Best for
- Terminal agents and editors, or any client without OAuth
- Sign-in
- Generate a named token in Settings, AI Toolkit and send it as a Bearer header
- What you get
- The same 44 tools; revoke the token in the app to cut access
Shopify Sidekick
- Best for
- Merchants who stay inside Shopify admin
- Sign-in
- Nothing to add: StoreSEO is installed in your store
- What you get
- SEO answers and deep links to the fix page, not the MCP tools
What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Questions
How do I connect Kiro to StoreSEO?
Open the Command Palette, search for MCP and open the workspace or user MCP config. Add an mcpServers entry named storeseo with the url https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp and save. Kiro opens a browser sign-in where you pick your Shopify store and approve.
Do I need a StoreSEO API key for Kiro?
No. Kiro handles the OAuth sign-in for remote servers. A personal access token from StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit is the alternative, sent as an Authorization Bearer value in a headers entry.
Where does Kiro keep the StoreSEO server?
In .kiro/settings/mcp.json for one workspace, or ~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json for every project. If both define the same name, the workspace file wins.
Will Kiro change my store without asking?
StoreSEO tells the agent to preview, name any cost and wait for your yes before it applies content, optimizes images, changes settings, publishes llms.txt or agents.md, writes a description or deletes anything. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server. Kiro's own tool approval, including what you put in autoApprove, is the hard stop, so keep write tools out of that list.
Which StoreSEO plan do I need?
Any active StoreSEO plan, including the free plan, can use the MCP server. Rank tracking is a Pro feature, Google reports need a paid plan with Google connected, and generated content spends AI Content Optimizer credit.
Can I hide StoreSEO tools I do not use?
Yes. Add their names to the disabledTools list for the storeseo server and Kiro hides them from the agent. StoreSEO exposes 44 tools, and a smaller set can make the agent's choices simpler.
How do I disconnect Kiro from my store?
Remove the storeseo entry from the mcp.json file where you added it, or set disabled to true to switch it off. You can also revoke the connection in StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected app is listed.
