Run Your Shopify SEO with ChatGPT dots
A ChatGPT dot is an always-on agent inside ChatGPT: it has its own cloud computer, works across the apps you connect and keeps going between conversations. Connected to StoreSEO through the plugin you add in ChatGPT, your dot reads your store's SEO scores, previews better meta and alt text, and can send you a scheduled report.

How do I connect ChatGPT dots to StoreSEO?
- 1
Create the StoreSEO app in ChatGPT
OpenAI's help center says plugins are shared across dots and ChatGPT, so you set StoreSEO up once. In ChatGPT on the web, turn on Developer mode under Settings, Security and login, open Plugins, select the plus button and create an app named StoreSEO with this MCP server URL and OAuth. Sign in when the browser asks: pick your Shopify store and approve access. If ChatGPT already has the StoreSEO app, skip this step.

- 2
Make sure your dot can see it
Open your dot's profile, then Customize and Plugins, and check StoreSEO is connected. Then give your dot a first task that names StoreSEO.
PromptUsing StoreSEO, show me my store's SEO score breakdown.

Or ask a workspace admin to publish it Optional
On a Business workspace only an admin or owner can turn on developer mode and publish the app, and on Enterprise and Edu an admin has to grant you access first. The controls sit under Settings, Apps. Give the admin the same URL, then start at the previous step once the app is published.

Sign-in
You sign in with StoreSEO once, in the browser: pick your Shopify store and approve access. Your dot uses the same ChatGPT plugin, and ChatGPT can register itself through dynamic client registration, so there is no token to paste.

What is ChatGPT dots?
A ChatGPT dot is one of OpenAI's always-on agents inside ChatGPT. According to OpenAI's help center, a dot has its own cloud computer, memory, and the apps you choose to connect. You give it a goal, set what it may do on its own, and it keeps making progress between conversations and brings results back for your review.
Connected apps give a dot its tools. OpenAI's help center says plugin permissions are shared across dots and ChatGPT, so an MCP app you create for ChatGPT in developer mode is available to your dot too. Custom rules let you allow, require approval for or block specific actions, and Scheduled Tasks let a dot run once, repeat or monitor for changes.
StoreSEO's MCP server is a remote server of that kind. Once the app exists, your dot can read your store's SEO scores, preview optimized content and, when you agree, apply it. Because a dot can run on a timer while you are away, the useful pattern is scheduled reports, with changes left for a conversation where you can say yes.
Why use ChatGPT dots with StoreSEO?
A weekly SEO check that runs itself
Ask your dot to review your store every week and report what slipped: low scores, missing alt text, an llms.txt that is out of date. You read a short summary instead of opening the app.
One plugin for ChatGPT and your dot
You add StoreSEO once in ChatGPT. The same app is available when you chat and when your dot works, so there is nothing separate to maintain.
Rules you control
Custom rules decide what your dot does alone and what it asks about. Pair them with StoreSEO's preview-first instructions and you can keep every store change behind a conversation.
Good to know
- Developer mode and write actions depend on your plan and workspace. OpenAI's developer guide lists developer mode for Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts on the web. OpenAI's help center, as we read it, puts full MCP support with write actions in beta on Business, Enterprise and Edu and gives Pro accounts read access only.
- On a Business workspace only an admin or owner can turn on developer mode and publish the app, and on Enterprise and Edu you need access granted by an admin. If you do not see the setting under Settings, Security and login, ask your admin.
- A scheduled task has no one watching it. Write it as report only: StoreSEO tells the agent to preview and wait for your yes, but that yes is an instruction, and a task paired with a rule that takes actions without asking could apply changes unattended.
- Generated previews spend AI Content Optimizer credit, so a recurring task that previews content every week uses credit every week. Keep scheduled work to reads unless you want that spend.
What can you ask ChatGPT dots to do in StoreSEO?
Using StoreSEO, what is my store's SEO score and what are the three biggest problems?
Every Monday, use StoreSEO to list products scoring under 50 and send me the list. Report only and change nothing.
Check whether my llms.txt is live and up to date, and tell me what generating a new one would change before you do anything.
Using StoreSEO, which images have no alt text? Preview alt text for five of them.
Once a month, pull my Search Console queries for the last 28 days and summarize where we rank between 8 and 20.
Run SEO checks on a schedule with your dot
OpenAI's help center describes Scheduled Tasks that run once, repeat or monitor for changes. Ask your dot in plain words what to check, when, and where to report, and keep the task to reads: scores, image status, setup and Google reports. A scheduled run is unattended, so there is nobody to say yes to a change. StoreSEO tells the agent to preview and wait for your yes before it writes, spends credit or publishes, but that is an instruction, so word the task as report only and keep your custom rules set to ask before any action that changes your store.
Every Monday at 8:00, use StoreSEO to list my lowest-scoring products, any images without alt text and whether my llms.txt is live, and send me a short report. Report only and change nothing. If StoreSEO is unreachable, tell me instead of reusing last week's data.

Which way should you connect?
MCP server with OAuth
- Best for
- Claude, ChatGPT and any client that supports remote MCP sign-in
- Sign-in
- Pick your store in Shopify and approve once
- What you get
- All 44 tools, scoped to the store you approved
MCP server with an access token
- Best for
- Terminal agents and editors, or any client without OAuth
- Sign-in
- Generate a named token in Settings, AI Toolkit and send it as a Bearer header
- What you get
- The same 44 tools; revoke the token in the app to cut access
Shopify Sidekick
- Best for
- Merchants who stay inside Shopify admin
- Sign-in
- Nothing to add: StoreSEO is installed in your store
- What you get
- SEO answers and deep links to the fix page, not the MCP tools
What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Questions
How do I connect a ChatGPT dot to StoreSEO?
Create the StoreSEO app in ChatGPT: turn on Developer mode under Settings, Security and login, open Plugins, select the plus button, name the app StoreSEO, paste https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp and choose OAuth. Sign in, pick your Shopify store and approve. Then check under your dot's Customize, Plugins that StoreSEO is connected.
Do I need an API key to connect my dot?
No. You sign in with OAuth in the browser and StoreSEO issues ChatGPT its own credentials. Your dot uses the same plugin, so there is no token to paste.
Will my dot change my store without asking?
StoreSEO tells the agent to preview first and wait for your yes before it applies content, optimizes images, changes settings, publishes a file or deletes anything, and reads such as scores and reports run straight away. That yes is an instruction, not a lock on the server. In ChatGPT, write actions ask for confirmation by default and you can review the payload. Custom rules on your dot and a task worded as report only are your hard stops.
Which StoreSEO plan does a dot need?
Any active StoreSEO plan, including the free plan, can use the MCP server. Rank tracking is a Pro feature, Google reports need a paid plan with Google connected, and generated content spends AI credit. On the ChatGPT side, your plan and workspace decide whether developer mode is available.
Why can I not turn on developer mode on a Business workspace?
OpenAI's help center says that on Business only an admin or owner can enable developer mode and publish an app, and on Enterprise and Edu an admin has to grant access. Ask your admin to create and publish the StoreSEO app with the MCP URL, then your dot can use it.
Can my dot run SEO checks on a schedule?
Yes. OpenAI's help center describes scheduled tasks for dots. Ask for a recurring check and say it is report only. Reads such as scores and reports run without anyone present, but anything that changes your store should wait for you in a conversation.
Is this different from connecting plain ChatGPT?
The setup is the same: a developer-mode app with the StoreSEO MCP URL. A dot adds its own cloud computer, memory and scheduled tasks on top, so it suits recurring checks while ChatGPT suits a conversation.
How do I disconnect my dot from StoreSEO?
Remove or disconnect the StoreSEO app in ChatGPT's Plugins, and revoke the connection in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected app is listed.
