Audit your store's SEO with ChatGPT dots
Running a store SEO audit with a ChatGPT dot means giving an always-on OpenAI agent a standing StoreSEO check, so the lowest-scoring products, collections, pages and posts arrive as a recurring report instead of something you remember to open.

Set up ChatGPT dots for StoreSEO
Skip this if ChatGPT dots is already connected. The full guide, with the alternatives, is on the ChatGPT dots page.
- 1
Create the StoreSEO app in ChatGPT
OpenAI's help center says plugins are shared across dots and ChatGPT, so you set StoreSEO up once. In ChatGPT on the web, turn on Developer mode under Settings, Security and login, open Plugins, select the plus button and create an app named StoreSEO with this MCP server URL and OAuth. Sign in when the browser asks: pick your Shopify store and approve access. If ChatGPT already has the StoreSEO app, skip this step.

Make sure your dot can see it
Open your dot's profile, then Customize and Plugins, and check StoreSEO is connected. Then give your dot a first task that names StoreSEO.
PromptUsing StoreSEO, show me my store's SEO score breakdown.
How does this work in ChatGPT dots?
You do not sit in front of this one. You tell your dot, once, to audit the store every Monday and say where the summary should land, and the task runs on its own cloud computer while you are doing something else. Each run opens with storeseo_start, which returns the conversation id and a snapshot of how many resources are optimized, need improvement or are not optimized. The dot then calls storeseo_list_resources sorted by score, lowest first, and storeseo_get_resource_seo on the handful at the bottom. Every one of those calls is a read, which is why an audit is the safest thing to put on a timer.
What makes a dot different from a chat here is memory. OpenAI's help center describes dots as keeping context between conversations, so the Monday report can say which products climbed since last week, which are new at the bottom and which failing criterion keeps coming back, instead of restating a flat list. Ask for the report in the shape you will actually read: three bullet points, a table of the ten worst, or only changes since last run. If StoreSEO cannot be reached, tell the dot to say so rather than reuse last week's numbers.
Keep the scheduled task to this reading. When the report shows a collection with a missing meta description, open a normal ChatGPT conversation with the same StoreSEO plugin and fix it there, where a preview can be shown and a yes can be given. The dot finds the problems; you decide which ones get changed, and the hard stop for changes is the approval setting on your plugin and your dot's custom rules.
-
You: Every Monday morning, audit my store with StoreSEO and send me the ten weakest products. Report only.
-
ChatGPT dots: Scheduled for Mondays, report only. Running the first audit now.
- storeseo_start read-only
- storeseo_list_resources read-only
- storeseo_get_resource_seo read-only
-
ChatGPT dots: The ten lowest score between 21 and 38. Eight lack a meta description and six have images with no alt text. I will compare against this list next Monday.
What to ask ChatGPT dots
Every Monday at 8:00, use StoreSEO to list my ten lowest-scoring products and what changed since last week. Report only and change nothing.
Audit my collections and pages as well, worst first, and tell me which fixes I can ask for in a chat and which need me in the StoreSEO app.
If StoreSEO is unreachable on a run, tell me that instead of reusing the last report.
- Show me my ten lowest-scoring products and the top issue on each.
- Which collections are not optimized yet, and what is failing on them?
- Give me an SEO audit of my blog posts, worst first.
- Which products have the weakest GEO score for AI shopping agents, and why?
- Summarize my store's SEO: how many products, collections, pages and posts are optimized?
- For the product Linen Shirt, list every failing SEO criterion and say which ones StoreSEO can fix.
What StoreSEO does: store seo audit
StoreSEO scores every product, collection, page and blog post against its SEO checklist, and scores products for AI readiness (GEO) as well. An agent opens a session, lists the weakest resources first and reads the per-criterion analysis for each, so you get a ranked worklist instead of a dashboard to click through.
- 1
Open a StoreSEO session
The agent calls the start tool first. It returns a conversation id every later call needs, plus a snapshot of your store: how many resources are optimized, need improvement or are not optimized, image status, rank tracking and which features are set up.
- 2
List the weakest resources
It lists products, collections, pages or articles sorted by score, lowest first, or filtered to the ones marked not optimized. Products also carry a GEO score and their AI-readiness issues.
- 3
Read the checklist for each one
For each candidate it reads the full SEO record: current meta fields, focus keyword, score, every criterion that passes or fails, image status, FAQs and AI snippet.
- 4
Sort fixes by who can make them
It separates what a StoreSEO tool can fix (meta, handle, FAQs, AI snippet, image alt text, schema) from what only you can change in the app or in Shopify admin (the focus keyword, the product title, category, inventory).
- 5
Report a worklist
You get the resources in order, with the failing criteria in plain words and one suggested next fix. Nothing is written during an audit.

Rules ChatGPT dots follows
- Every audit call is a read and runs straight away; nothing in this job changes your store.
- The agent describes criteria by their visible title, never by internal identifiers or raw status values.
- Criteria no tool can fix, such as choosing the focus keyword, are handed to you with a link into the StoreSEO app rather than guessed.
- The agent should offer one next fix at a time, tied to what it just found, instead of dumping the whole list as a checklist.
In ChatGPT dots
A scheduled run has nobody watching it, so write the task as report only and check your dot's custom rules under Customize. StoreSEO's audit tools are all reads, but your plugin is shared with every other dot and ChatGPT chat you use, and a rule that lets actions run without asking would also cover the apply and generate tools if a later task wandered into them. Developer mode and the plan that allows it are set on the ChatGPT side, so a Business workspace may need an admin to publish the app before your dot can see it.
What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Questions
Does a scheduled ChatGPT dot audit change my Shopify store?
No. The audit uses storeseo_start, storeseo_list_resources and storeseo_get_resource_seo, which are reads. Word the task as report only, and keep fixes for a conversation where you can see a preview first.
Can the dot tell me what improved since the last audit?
It can compare against earlier reports when your dot keeps them in its memory, which OpenAI's help center describes for dots. Ask for changes since last run, and check the first few reports to see it is comparing correctly.
Does an SEO audit change anything in my store?
No. The audit uses read-only tools: the session start, the resource list and the per-resource SEO record. Your store is only changed later, by a separate step you agree to.
What is the difference between the SEO score and the GEO score?
The SEO score measures a resource against StoreSEO's on-page checklist for search engines. The GEO score applies to products only and measures how ready the product is for AI shopping agents and generative search, using criteria such as FAQs, an AI snippet, alt text and product schema.
Can the agent choose my focus keyword?
No tool can set the focus keyword. The agent can tell you when the keyword is missing or looks wrong and give you a link to set it in the StoreSEO app, and several fixes such as keyword clusters and description writing need it set first.
How many products can the agent audit at once?
The listing is paginated, so the agent can walk your whole catalog page by page. In practice it is more useful to ask for the lowest scores first and work down from there.
