Audit your store's SEO with Muse

Running a store SEO audit with Muse means texting Meta's personal AI agent a question such as which of my products score worst, and letting it read your StoreSEO scores and checklists so a ranked worklist arrives in the same thread you use for everything else.

Set up Muse for StoreSEO

Skip this if Muse is already connected. The full guide, with the alternatives, is on the Muse page.

  1. 1

    Send this message to Muse

Paste it into a new chat with Muse in the app, on muse.ai or in WhatsApp. Muse is rolling out in the US first, so you need access to it before this works.

    new message to Muse
Add a custom connector for my Shopify SEO app StoreSEO:
    https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp
    - It is an MCP server over HTTP and it signs in with OAuth. Send me the sign-in link and I will approve it.
    - Once it is connected, show me my store's SEO score breakdown.
  2. 2

Approve the sign-in for your store

Open the sign-in link Muse sends back, pick your Shopify store in the browser and approve access. Meta does not review custom connectors, so only approve this one if you started it.

How does this work in Muse?

You are in a thread with Muse, in its app, on muse.ai or in WhatsApp, and StoreSEO is already added as a custom connector. The first message can be a single line: audit my store and tell me where to start. Muse calls storeseo_start, which returns the conversation id every other StoreSEO tool needs and a snapshot of how many products, collections, pages and posts are optimized, need improvement or are not optimized. It then calls storeseo_list_resources with the lowest scores first and storeseo_get_resource_seo on the products it wants to explain. All three are reads, so the answer arrives without a question in between.

A phone is where this format fits best. A reply that lands in a message thread has to be short enough to read on a small screen, so ask Muse for the worst five instead of the worst fifty, and for one line per product: the score, the failing criterion that costs the most and whether StoreSEO can fix it. Muse can then split the list into fixes you can ask for in the same thread, such as meta, FAQs and image alt text, and fixes only you can make in the StoreSEO app, such as setting a focus keyword. Products also carry a GEO score for AI readiness, so one pass shows which listings AI shopping agents will struggle with.

Muse runs on its own Secure VM for each person, and Meta says a separate Sentinel agent decides what leaves that machine. That check sits around Muse and is separate from StoreSEO, so you may see Muse pause on a first call to the connector and ask you to confirm, even though an audit only reads. Treat that as the client doing its job and answer it. Because you control the thread, the audit is a conversation: follow up with only collections, or only products that are marked not optimized, and Muse reuses the session it already opened.

Muse + StoreSEO Illustrative session
  1. You: Use StoreSEO to audit my store. Five worst products, one line each.

  2. storeseo_start read-only
  3. storeseo_list_resources read-only
  4. storeseo_get_resource_seo read-only
  5. Muse: Illustrative result: 41 of your 130 products are not optimized. The lowest five score between 11 and 27. Four have no meta description and image alt text. One has no focus keyword, which you set in the StoreSEO app. Want me to preview a fix for the first one?

What StoreSEO does: store seo audit

StoreSEO scores every product, collection, page and blog post against its SEO checklist, and scores products for AI readiness (GEO) as well. An agent opens a session, lists the weakest resources first and reads the per-criterion analysis for each, so you get a ranked worklist instead of a dashboard to click through.

  1. 1

    Open a StoreSEO session

The agent calls the start tool first. It returns a conversation id every later call needs, plus a snapshot of your store: how many resources are optimized, need improvement or are not optimized, image status, rank tracking and which features are set up.

  2. 2

    List the weakest resources

It lists products, collections, pages or articles sorted by score, lowest first, or filtered to the ones marked not optimized. Products also carry a GEO score and their AI-readiness issues.

  3. 3

Read the checklist for each one

For each candidate it reads the full SEO record: current meta fields, focus keyword, score, every criterion that passes or fails, image status, FAQs and AI snippet.

  4. 4

Sort fixes by who can make them

It separates what a StoreSEO tool can fix (meta, handle, FAQs, AI snippet, image alt text, schema) from what only you can change in the app or in Shopify admin (the focus keyword, the product title, category, inventory).

  5. 5

    Report a worklist

You get the resources in order, with the failing criteria in plain words and one suggested next fix. Nothing is written during an audit.

Rules Muse follows

  • Every audit call is a read and runs straight away; nothing in this job changes your store.
  • The agent describes criteria by their visible title, never by internal identifiers or raw status values.
  • Criteria no tool can fix, such as choosing the focus keyword, are handed to you with a link into the StoreSEO app rather than guessed.
  • The agent should offer one next fix at a time, tied to what it just found, instead of dumping the whole list as a checklist.

In Muse

StoreSEO is a custom connector in Muse, and Meta says it does not review custom connectors, so the first audit is also the moment to check that the sign-in you approved was the one you started. Muse has no screen listing connected tools, which means you cannot switch the apply or generate tools off for an audit-only habit. If you want read-only behavior, say so in the message, and to cut off access entirely revoke the connection in StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit.

What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Questions

Can I run a StoreSEO audit from Muse in WhatsApp?

Yes, if Muse is available to you there. Muse works in the Muse app, on muse.ai and in WhatsApp, and the same StoreSEO connection serves all three. Ask for short answers, such as the worst five products, so the list reads well on a phone.

Does a Muse audit change anything in my store?

No. The audit uses storeseo_start, storeseo_list_resources and storeseo_get_resource_seo, which only read. Muse or its Sentinel may still ask you to confirm the first connector call.

Does an SEO audit change anything in my store?

No. The audit uses read-only tools: the session start, the resource list and the per-resource SEO record. Your store is only changed later, by a separate step you agree to.

What is the difference between the SEO score and the GEO score?

The SEO score measures a resource against StoreSEO's on-page checklist for search engines. The GEO score applies to products only and measures how ready the product is for AI shopping agents and generative search, using criteria such as FAQs, an AI snippet, alt text and product schema.

Can the agent choose my focus keyword?

No tool can set the focus keyword. The agent can tell you when the keyword is missing or looks wrong and give you a link to set it in the StoreSEO app, and several fixes such as keyword clusters and description writing need it set first.

How many products can the agent audit at once?

The listing is paginated, so the agent can walk your whole catalog page by page. In practice it is more useful to ask for the lowest scores first and work down from there.
