Store SEO audit

Audit your store's SEO with OpenClaw

Auditing your store's SEO with OpenClaw means your own agent runtime calls StoreSEO's read tools, on request in a chat app or on a schedule, and sends back a ranked list of the lowest-scoring products, collections, pages and posts.

Set up OpenClaw for StoreSEO

Skip this if OpenClaw is already connected. The full guide, with the alternatives, is on the OpenClaw page.

  1. 1

    Add StoreSEO to OpenClaw

Run this on the installation that owns the connector. The --auth oauth flag marks the server as an OAuth server, which is what openclaw mcp login needs.

    Terminal
    openclaw mcp add storeseo \
      --url https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp \
      --transport streamable-http \
      --auth oauth
  2. 2

    Sign in to your store

The login prints an authorization URL. Open it in a browser, pick your Shopify store and approve access. OpenClaw captures the redirect and saves the credentials.

    Terminal
    openclaw mcp login storeseo
  3. 3

    Check the connection

The probe opens a live connection and reports the tools the server offers. A saved server entry proves nothing until the probe passes.

    Terminal
    openclaw mcp doctor storeseo --probe

How does this work in OpenClaw?

OpenClaw runs on your own machine or server, and you usually talk to it from a chat app such as Telegram or Slack rather than an editor. Once storeseo is added with openclaw mcp add, signed in with openclaw mcp login and checked with openclaw mcp doctor storeseo --probe, you message it something like which ten products score worst. The agent calls storeseo_start first, because every other StoreSEO tool needs the conversation id it returns, then storeseo_list_resources sorted by score and storeseo_get_resource_seo for the candidates. All three are read-only. The reply lands in the same chat, with failing criteria named by their visible titles and a split between what StoreSEO can fix and what you must change in the app.

The difference with OpenClaw is that the audit can run without you. Automations, the built-in scheduler, wake the agent at a set time in an isolated session and announce the result in a channel, so a Monday report can be waiting in your chat. Because the OAuth credentials are saved on the installation that owns the connector, a scheduled run reuses them without another sign-in. A scheduled audit is the right shape for this scheduler: it reads, it reports, and there is no one awake to say yes to anything else.

Keep the scheduled prompt explicit about reads. Ask for the score breakdown and the lowest-scoring products, and tell the job not to preview, apply or generate. Then follow up in the chat yourself when a finding deserves a fix, because that conversation has someone present to answer the agent's question. You can also keep the agent's reach small with openclaw mcp tools, including only the list and get tools for the audit.

OpenClaw + StoreSEO Illustrative session
  1. You: Run my StoreSEO audit and send me the ten worst products.

  2. storeseo_start read-only
  3. storeseo_list_resources read-only
  4. storeseo_get_resource_seo read-only
  5. OpenClaw: The ten lowest score between 14 and 30. Eight have no meta description and five have images without alt text. Two need a focus keyword, which you set in the StoreSEO app.

  6. You: Schedule this every Monday morning and keep it read only.

  7. OpenClaw: I can create an automation with a prompt that only reads and reports to this chat. Run it with openclaw automations create using that prompt and your timezone.

What to ask OpenClaw

Prompt 1
Use StoreSEO to list my ten lowest-scoring products and the top issue on each. Read only.
Prompt 2
Every Monday, report my SEO score breakdown and the five lowest-scoring products. Do not preview, apply or generate anything.
Prompt 3
Which blog posts and pages are not optimized yet? Give me the worst five with their failing criteria.
  • Show me my ten lowest-scoring products and the top issue on each.
  • Which collections are not optimized yet, and what is failing on them?
  • Give me an SEO audit of my blog posts, worst first.
  • Which products have the weakest GEO score for AI shopping agents, and why?
  • Summarize my store's SEO: how many products, collections, pages and posts are optimized?
  • For the product Linen Shirt, list every failing SEO criterion and say which ones StoreSEO can fix.

What StoreSEO does: store seo audit

StoreSEO scores every product, collection, page and blog post against its SEO checklist, and scores products for AI readiness (GEO) as well. An agent opens a session, lists the weakest resources first and reads the per-criterion analysis for each, so you get a ranked worklist instead of a dashboard to click through.

  1. 1

    Open a StoreSEO session

The agent calls the start tool first. It returns a conversation id every later call needs, plus a snapshot of your store: how many resources are optimized, need improvement or are not optimized, image status, rank tracking and which features are set up.

  2. 2

    List the weakest resources

It lists products, collections, pages or articles sorted by score, lowest first, or filtered to the ones marked not optimized. Products also carry a GEO score and their AI-readiness issues.

  3. 3

Read the checklist for each one

For each candidate it reads the full SEO record: current meta fields, focus keyword, score, every criterion that passes or fails, image status, FAQs and AI snippet.

  4. 4

Sort fixes by who can make them

It separates what a StoreSEO tool can fix (meta, handle, FAQs, AI snippet, image alt text, schema) from what only you can change in the app or in Shopify admin (the focus keyword, the product title, category, inventory).

  5. 5

    Report a worklist

You get the resources in order, with the failing criteria in plain words and one suggested next fix. Nothing is written during an audit.

Rules OpenClaw follows

  • Every audit call is a read and runs straight away; nothing in this job changes your store.
  • The agent describes criteria by their visible title, never by internal identifiers or raw status values.
  • Criteria no tool can fix, such as choosing the focus keyword, are handed to you with a link into the StoreSEO app rather than guessed.
  • The agent should offer one next fix at a time, tied to what it just found, instead of dumping the whole list as a checklist.

In OpenClaw

A scheduled automation has nobody to answer a question, so an audit job must be report only: write the prompt so it asks for reads and says not to preview, apply or generate. Run the mcp commands on the installation that owns the connector, because a Gateway or agent on another host needs its own reload before it sees storeseo. OpenClaw has its own per-server approval setting, openclaw mcp configure storeseo --approval followed by approve, prompt or auto, and the docs here do not spell out each mode, so do not leave it on one that skips the check unless you mean it.

What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Questions

Can OpenClaw run a StoreSEO audit on a schedule?

Yes. openclaw automations create takes a schedule and a prompt, runs it in an isolated session and can announce the result in a chat channel. Keep the prompt to reads, because nobody is there to approve a write.

Will a scheduled OpenClaw audit change my Shopify store?

Not if the prompt asks only for reads. The audit tools are read-only, and you should tell the job not to preview, apply or generate anything. Fixes belong in a chat where you can answer.

Does an SEO audit change anything in my store?

No. The audit uses read-only tools: the session start, the resource list and the per-resource SEO record. Your store is only changed later, by a separate step you agree to.

What is the difference between the SEO score and the GEO score?

The SEO score measures a resource against StoreSEO's on-page checklist for search engines. The GEO score applies to products only and measures how ready the product is for AI shopping agents and generative search, using criteria such as FAQs, an AI snippet, alt text and product schema.

Can the agent choose my focus keyword?

No tool can set the focus keyword. The agent can tell you when the keyword is missing or looks wrong and give you a link to set it in the StoreSEO app, and several fixes such as keyword clusters and description writing need it set first.

How many products can the agent audit at once?

The listing is paginated, so the agent can walk your whole catalog page by page. In practice it is more useful to ask for the lowest scores first and work down from there.
