Track keyword rankings with Muse
Tracking keywords with Muse means telling Meta's personal AI agent which search terms matter for your store, so StoreSEO checks their Google positions and you can ask in a message thread how they and your competitors have moved.

Skip this if Muse is already connected. The full guide, with the alternatives, is on the Muse page.
- 1
Send this message to Muse
Paste it into a new chat with Muse in the app, on muse.ai or in WhatsApp. Muse is rolling out in the US first, so you need access to it before this works.
new message to MuseAdd a custom connector for my Shopify SEO app StoreSEO: https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp - It is an MCP server over HTTP and it signs in with OAuth. Send me the sign-in link and I will approve it. - Once it is connected, show me my store's SEO score breakdown.

Approve the sign-in for your store
Open the sign-in link Muse sends back, pick your Shopify store in the browser and approve access. Meta does not review custom connectors, so only approve this one if you started it.

Step-by-step guide in the docs: How to connect StoreSEO MCP to Muse
How does this work in Muse?
Rank tracking is a Pro plan feature, so a sensible first message to Muse is a look at what you already have: which keywords am I tracking and where do I rank. Muse calls storeseo_start, then storeseo_list_keywords, which returns the latest known Google position, the change since the last check, SERP features and competitor positions. For one keyword, storeseo_get_keyword_history gives the dated record, newest first. If your plan lacks rank tracking, Muse should explain the upgrade in the thread instead of calling the rank tools and failing.
Adding keywords takes preparation that Muse can do for you. The country and language must be exact names from storeseo_list_rank_locations and storeseo_list_rank_languages, so Muse looks them up rather than typing them from memory. It then calls storeseo_add_keywords with keyword, language, location and device. Positions are checked in the background, so the reply confirms that the keywords were created and queued, and the first ranks show up on a later question. Every keyword counts against the plan limit. Competitors can be added with storeseo_add_competitors, to a maximum of five.
Clusters are the heavier tool. storeseo_generate_keyword_cluster groups related keywords around a product's focus keyword with search volume and difficulty, spends AI credit and runs for a couple of minutes, and Muse polls storeseo_get_keyword_cluster until the job finishes. It fails if the product has no focus keyword, which only you can set in the StoreSEO app. Muse can state the estimated credit when you ask, and because you are on a phone, the natural pattern is to start the cluster, close the app and ask for the result in the thread later.

You: Use StoreSEO to track the keyword linen shirts for men in the United States on mobile.
- storeseo_start read-only
- storeseo_list_rank_locations read-only
- storeseo_list_rank_languages read-only
-
Muse: I will use United States and English, on mobile. It counts against your keyword limit and the first positions arrive later. Should I add it?
-
You: Yes, add it.
- storeseo_add_keywords needs approval
-
Muse: Created and queued. Ask me later and I will read the position.

What StoreSEO does: keyword rank tracking
StoreSEO checks your Google rank for tracked keywords by country, language and device, records the history and compares competitor domains. Keyword clusters group related keywords around a product's focus keyword with search volume and difficulty.
Requires: Rank and competitor tracking are Pro plan tools. Keyword clusters spend AI Content Optimizer credit.
- 1
Pick the market
The agent looks up the exact country and language names the tracker accepts, because new keywords must use them verbatim.
- 2
Add keywords
After your yes it adds keywords with a country, language and device. Checks run in the background, so positions appear later.
- 3
Read ranks and history
It lists your keywords with the latest Google position, change, SERP features and competitor positions, and reads the dated history for any keyword.
- 4
Compare competitors
Up to five competitor domains are tracked alongside your keywords. To change one, it is deleted and the new domain added.
- 5
Build a cluster
For a product with a focus keyword, StoreSEO generates a cluster of related keywords in the background; the agent states the estimated credit first and polls until it is ready.

Rules Muse follows
- On a plan without rank tracking, the agent explains the upgrade instead of calling the rank tools.
- Country and language names come from the lookup tools, never typed from memory.
- Deleting a keyword or competitor erases its history for good, so the agent confirms each one.
- A cluster needs a focus keyword set in the StoreSEO app; the agent states the estimated credit and waits for your yes.
In Muse
Deleting a tracked keyword or a competitor erases its history for good, and a loosely worded message such as clean up my keywords is easy to misread in a quick thread. Name the keyword in full and make Muse repeat which one it will delete before you say yes. Muse also has no tool list to restrict, so a Pro-only habit like this leans on your wording and on revoking the connection in StoreSEO under Settings, AI Toolkit, if you want it to stop.
What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Questions
Do I need the Pro plan to track keywords with Muse?
Yes. Rank and competitor tracking are Pro plan tools, and on another plan Muse should explain that instead of calling them. Keyword clusters also spend AI credit.
Why are my new keywords showing no position in Muse?
Ranks are checked in the background after storeseo_add_keywords creates the keywords, so positions appear on a later storeseo_list_keywords call. Ask Muse again after a while.
Which plan do I need for keyword tracking through an agent?
Rank tracking and competitor tracking are Pro plan tools. On other plans the agent should explain that instead of calling them. Keyword clusters work on plans with AI Content Optimizer credit.
Does StoreSEO track rankings in AI search engines?
No. The rank tracker checks Google results by country, language and device. AI visibility is handled by the GEO score, llms.txt and agents.md jobs instead.
Why are new keywords pending?
Rank checks run in the background. Adding a keyword queues the first check, and its position appears in the keyword list once that check completes.
What is a keyword cluster?
A group of related keywords built around a product's focus keyword, sorted by search volume and scored for relevance and difficulty. It shows which wider terms the product page can target.
