Track keyword rankings with Grok Bot

Tracking keyword rankings with Grok Bot means asking a Bot to add keywords to StoreSEO's Google rank tracker, read how positions move by country, language and device, and post a regular digest from a routine on its cloud computer.

Set up Grok Bot for StoreSEO

Skip this if Grok Bot is already connected. The full guide, with the alternatives, is on the Grok Bot page.

  1. 1

Ask your Bot to add StoreSEO

In a chat with your Bot, ask it to add a custom remote HTTPS MCP server with this URL. xAI's documentation says a plugin added from your own chat is personal and account-wide, so every Bot on your account can use it. Complete the StoreSEO sign-in when the browser opens: pick your Shopify store and approve access.

    Prompt
Add a custom remote HTTPS MCP server called StoreSEO with the URL https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp and sign me in.
  2. 2

Attach it and check it works

In a chat, type @ to attach the StoreSEO connector to the task, then ask this to confirm the connection.

    Prompt
Use @StoreSEO to show me my store's SEO score breakdown.

How does this work in Grok Bot?

Rank tracking is a Pro feature, and it is the job where a Bot's habit of coming back pays off most. You attach StoreSEO to a chat with @ and say which keywords matter and in which market. The Bot calls storeseo_start, then looks up the exact country and language values with storeseo_list_rank_locations and storeseo_list_rank_languages, because storeseo_add_keywords needs those names verbatim and the Bot should not type them from memory. It asks you for the device, desktop or mobile, then adds the keywords. Positions arrive later, because the rank check is queued, so the first read may show no rank yet.

Once keywords are tracked, reading them is cheap and safe. storeseo_list_keywords returns the latest rank and change, storeseo_get_keyword_history returns the dated history, and storeseo_list_competitors shows up to five competitor domains alongside. A Grok Bot routine fits this directly: every Monday, list the keywords that moved most, name any that fell out of the top ten, and post the result in the conversation. The run records under the Bot's conversation details let you page back through earlier digests and see the trend without keeping notes yourself.

Deleting is the part to keep out of automation. storeseo_delete_keyword and storeseo_delete_competitor erase the history for good, and adding keywords counts against your plan's keyword limit. The tracker covers Google only, not AI answer engines, so the Bot should not report AI visibility from it. Keep the digest routine as read only and do additions and deletions in a chat where you can answer.

  1. You: Use @StoreSEO to track soy candles in the United States on mobile.

  2. storeseo_start read-only
  3. storeseo_list_rank_locations read-only
  4. storeseo_list_rank_languages read-only
  5. Grok Bot: The exact values are United States and English. Adding the keyword counts against your keyword limit. Should I add it?

  6. You: Yes, add it.

  7. storeseo_add_keywords needs approval
  8. Grok Bot: Queued. Positions appear on a later check, so I will read them with the list call next time.

What StoreSEO does: keyword rank tracking

StoreSEO checks your Google rank for tracked keywords by country, language and device, records the history and compares competitor domains. Keyword clusters group related keywords around a product's focus keyword with search volume and difficulty.

Requires: Rank and competitor tracking are Pro plan tools. Keyword clusters spend AI Content Optimizer credit.

  1. 1

    Pick the market

The agent looks up the exact country and language names the tracker accepts, because new keywords must use them verbatim.

  2. 2

    Add keywords

After your yes it adds keywords with a country, language and device. Checks run in the background, so positions appear later.

  3. 3

    Read ranks and history

It lists your keywords with the latest Google position, change, SERP features and competitor positions, and reads the dated history for any keyword.

  4. 4

    Compare competitors

Up to five competitor domains are tracked alongside your keywords. To change one, it is deleted and the new domain added.

  5. 5

    Build a cluster

For a product with a focus keyword, StoreSEO generates a cluster of related keywords in the background; the agent states the estimated credit first and polls until it is ready.

Rules Grok Bot follows

  • On a plan without rank tracking, the agent explains the upgrade instead of calling the rank tools.
  • Country and language names come from the lookup tools, never typed from memory.
  • Deleting a keyword or competitor erases its history for good, so the agent confirms each one.
  • A cluster needs a focus keyword set in the StoreSEO app; the agent states the estimated credit and waits for your yes.

In Grok Bot

Rank tracking needs the Pro plan, so on a lower plan the Bot should explain that instead of looping on refusals, and a routine would only report that failure each Monday. Be careful with deletes: storeseo_delete_keyword removes the entire rank history, and with Always allow saved on that tool the client no longer stops you. Keep the weekly digest report only, because a Test run performs real work.

What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Questions

Does a Grok Bot routine need my approval to read ranks?

The read tools only fetch data, but Grok Bot may still prompt the first time with Allow once, Always allow or Deny. Saving Always allow for a read tool is reasonable if you keep write tools on Ask first.

Can the Bot track how I appear in ChatGPT or Gemini?

No. StoreSEO's rank tracker checks Google only, and AI search engines are not tracked, so a Grok Bot digest covers Google positions and competitor domains.

Which plan do I need for keyword tracking through an agent?

Rank tracking and competitor tracking are Pro plan tools. On other plans the agent should explain that instead of calling them. Keyword clusters work on plans with AI Content Optimizer credit.

Does StoreSEO track rankings in AI search engines?

No. The rank tracker checks Google results by country, language and device. AI visibility is handled by the GEO score, llms.txt and agents.md jobs instead.

Why are new keywords pending?

Rank checks run in the background. Adding a keyword queues the first check, and its position appears in the keyword list once that check completes.

What is a keyword cluster?

A group of related keywords built around a product's focus keyword, sorted by search volume and scored for relevance and difficulty. It shows which wider terms the product page can target.
