How does this work in Claude Code?

You start Claude Code in your theme folder or any working directory and type the request in the terminal, for example add linen shirt and linen shirt for men for the United States on mobile. Claude Code calls storeseo_start, looks up the market with storeseo_list_rank_locations and storeseo_list_rank_languages, and prints the exact keywords, country, language and device it plans to add. Each tool call scrolls past as it runs, and Claude Code's own permission prompt appears before storeseo_add_keywords unless you have allowed that tool. StoreSEO also tells the agent to wait for your yes in the conversation.

The terminal is a good place to turn rank data into something you keep. After the first checks finish, ask Claude Code to read storeseo_list_keywords and write rank-report.md in the repository: keyword, market, latest position, change, SERP features and where each competitor sits. Later sessions can compare against that file, and storeseo_get_keyword_history supplies the dated checks when one keyword needs a closer look. Because positions are checked in the background, a keyword added this morning may still be pending when you ask, and the report should say so rather than guess.

Keyword clusters work in the same flow. Claude Code names the product, states the estimated AI credit from storeseo_generate_keyword_cluster, waits for your yes and then polls storeseo_get_keyword_cluster until the background job completes, which takes a couple of minutes. The cluster comes back sorted by search volume with relevance and difficulty, so you can paste the best terms into a content brief in the same folder. Rank and competitor tools need the Pro plan.

  1. You: Which tracked keywords dropped out of the top ten? Write the answer to rank-report.md.

  2. storeseo_start read-only
  3. storeseo_list_keywords read-only
  4. storeseo_get_keyword_history read-only
  5. Claude Code: Two of your 14 tracked keywords left the top ten, and one competitor passed you on both. I wrote rank-report.md with positions, changes and the dates of each check. Want me to add three related keywords for the same market?

  6. You: Yes, add them for the United States on mobile.

  7. storeseo_add_keywords needs approval
  8. Claude Code: Queued. Their positions will show in the next listing once the checks finish.

What StoreSEO does: keyword rank tracking

StoreSEO checks your Google rank for tracked keywords by country, language and device, records the history and compares competitor domains. Keyword clusters group related keywords around a product's focus keyword with search volume and difficulty.

Requires: Rank and competitor tracking are Pro plan tools. Keyword clusters spend AI Content Optimizer credit.

  1. 1

    Pick the market

The agent looks up the exact country and language names the tracker accepts, because new keywords must use them verbatim.

  2. 2

    Add keywords

After your yes it adds keywords with a country, language and device. Checks run in the background, so positions appear later.

  3. 3

    Read ranks and history

It lists your keywords with the latest Google position, change, SERP features and competitor positions, and reads the dated history for any keyword.

  4. 4

    Compare competitors

Up to five competitor domains are tracked alongside your keywords. To change one, it is deleted and the new domain added.

  5. 5

    Build a cluster

For a product with a focus keyword, StoreSEO generates a cluster of related keywords in the background; the agent states the estimated credit first and polls until it is ready.

Rules Claude Code follows

  • On a plan without rank tracking, the agent explains the upgrade instead of calling the rank tools.
  • Country and language names come from the lookup tools, never typed from memory.
  • Deleting a keyword or competitor erases its history for good, so the agent confirms each one.
  • A cluster needs a focus keyword set in the StoreSEO app; the agent states the estimated credit and waits for your yes.

In Claude Code

Claude Code warns when a single tool result passes 10,000 tokens, and a keyword listing that carries competitor positions for every check can get there on a store tracking many keywords. Ask for a page at a time, filter by country or device, or search for one keyword instead of listing everything. If you added an allow rule for the StoreSEO tools to cut prompts, it also covers storeseo_delete_keyword, which erases a keyword's rank history permanently, so allow the read tools by name and keep the delete tools on ask.

What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Questions

Can Claude Code write my keyword rankings to a file?

Yes. Claude Code works in the folder you started it in, so it can read your tracked keywords and history through StoreSEO and write a Markdown or CSV report there. Ask for a fresh report in a later session to compare against it.

Why is my Claude Code keyword listing so large?

Each keyword row includes the latest position, change, SERP features and competitor positions. On a big list the result can pass Claude Code's 10,000 token warning, so ask for smaller pages or filter by country, device or search term.

Which plan do I need for keyword tracking through an agent?

Rank tracking and competitor tracking are Pro plan tools. On other plans the agent should explain that instead of calling them. Keyword clusters work on plans with AI Content Optimizer credit.

Does StoreSEO track rankings in AI search engines?

No. The rank tracker checks Google results by country, language and device. AI visibility is handled by the GEO score, llms.txt and agents.md jobs instead.

Why are new keywords pending?

Rank checks run in the background. Adding a keyword queues the first check, and its position appears in the keyword list once that check completes.

What is a keyword cluster?

A group of related keywords built around a product's focus keyword, sorted by search volume and scored for relevance and difficulty. It shows which wider terms the product page can target.
