Claude Code Structured data (JSON-LD)

Set up structured data with Claude Code

Setting up structured data with Claude Code means letting Anthropic's terminal agent read your Shopify store's JSON-LD schema configuration through StoreSEO and write complete settings back, while it can also see the schema your theme outputs in the same folder.

How does this work in Claude Code?

You launch Claude Code in the theme repository and ask which schema types are on for the store. It calls storeseo_start, then storeseo_list_schema_types, and prints the result in the terminal as each call completes. The terminal is where this job differs most from a chat: Claude Code can also grep your theme for hand-written application/ld+json blocks, so it can warn you when the theme already prints Organization or Product markup that StoreSEO would then duplicate.

For a type you want to configure it calls storeseo_get_schema_settings, takes the field template and fills what it can from files you already have. A store with a contact page, a footer template or a brand JSON file in the repository gives it the name, address and logo path without you typing them, but it should still show you what it found and let you correct it, because StoreSEO's rule is that business details come from you and are never invented. When you agree it sends the whole object through storeseo_update_schema_settings, and you see the call and its arguments in the terminal.

Dependencies are worth saying out loud in a terminal session. Review, sale dates and product merchant schema need product schema on, and disabling product also disables product merchant. Ask Claude Code to list the types before and after the change and to paste both lists into a notes file in the repository, which gives you a record of what the markup looked like before you touched it.

Claude Code + StoreSEO Illustrative session
  1. You: Which schema types are on, and does the theme add any of its own?

  2. storeseo_start read-only
  3. storeseo_list_schema_types read-only
  4. Claude Code: StoreSEO has product schema on and organization off. The theme's snippets/seo-org.liquid also prints an Organization block, so turning StoreSEO's on would duplicate it. Do you want me to enable organization schema in StoreSEO and leave the snippet for you to remove?

  5. You: Yes, enable it. I will delete the snippet.

  6. storeseo_get_schema_settings read-only
  7. storeseo_update_schema_settings needs approval

What to ask Claude Code

Prompt 1
Use StoreSEO to list my schema types, then grep this theme for any ld+json blocks that could duplicate them.
Prompt 2
Read my organization schema settings and fill the empty fields from the footer and contact templates in this repo. Show me the values before you save.
Prompt 3
Enable product schema through StoreSEO, then list the types again and save the before and after to schema-notes.md.
  • Which JSON-LD schema types are enabled on my store?
  • Set up organization schema with my business name, logo and contact email. Read the current settings first.
  • Turn on product schema and review schema.
  • Is local business schema configured? Show me what is missing.
  • Enable FAQ schema for products if my plan includes it.

What StoreSEO does: structured data (json-ld)

StoreSEO adds JSON-LD schema to your storefront so search engines and AI assistants can read your products, business and FAQs as data. The agent lists every schema type, reads a type's settings and its field template, and sends back a complete settings object.

Requires: The FAQ schema types need the FAQ Schema feature in your plan.

  1. 1

    List the schema types

The agent lists every type with whether it is on and whether it takes settings. Configurable types are product, review, sale dates, product merchant, organization and local business.

  2. 2

    Read before writing

For a configurable type it reads the current settings and the field template, because an update replaces the whole settings object rather than merging into it.

  3. 3

    Fill in your details

Business name, address, contact details and similar fields come from you. Organization and local business share the same business information, so changing one changes both.

  4. 4

    Switch it on

After your yes the agent sends the complete settings with the status. Organization, local business and product merchant need complete settings to be enabled.

Rules Claude Code follows

  • The agent reads the current settings before every settings update, because the update replaces them wholesale.
  • Business details come from you; the agent does not invent an address, phone number or opening hours.
  • Turning a schema type on or off changes your live storefront markup, so the agent confirms the change first.
  • When a type is refused for a missing plan feature or dependency, the agent says which one rather than retrying.

In Claude Code

Claude Code asks before a tool runs unless you have allowed it, and an allow rule written for the whole StoreSEO server also covers storeseo_update_schema_settings. Scope any rule to the list and get tools if you want the prompts gone for audits, and leave the update tool on ask, since it changes live storefront markup. If you added the server without --scope user it exists only in the folder where you ran the command, so a different project will not see it.

What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Questions

Can Claude Code compare StoreSEO's schema with the JSON-LD in my theme?

Yes. Claude Code can search the theme files in your folder for ld+json blocks and set them beside what storeseo_list_schema_types reports, so you can spot types that would be printed twice.

Will Claude Code edit my theme files when I ask for structured data?

Only if you ask it to. The StoreSEO tools change the schema settings held by StoreSEO, while theme files are separate edits that Claude Code makes through its own file tools, which you approve in the terminal.

What schema types can StoreSEO add to my store?

StoreSEO manages product, review, sale dates, product merchant, organization and local business schema with settings, plus toggle-only types such as the FAQ types for products, collections, articles and pages.

Why does the agent read my schema settings before changing them?

A settings update replaces the whole stored object instead of merging. Reading first and sending back the complete object is the only way to change one field without wiping the others.

Why was review schema refused?

Review, sale dates and product merchant schema depend on product schema. Turn product schema on first, then enable the dependent type.

Do I need a particular plan for FAQ schema?

Yes. The four FAQ schema types need the FAQ Schema feature in your StoreSEO plan. Without it, any change to them is refused with a message saying the feature is not in your plan.
