ChatGPT dots Structured data (JSON-LD)

Set up structured data with ChatGPT dots

Managing structured data with a ChatGPT dot means asking an always-on OpenAI agent to read which JSON-LD schema types StoreSEO has switched on for your store, and keeping any change to those settings for a conversation where you can see the full object first.

Set up ChatGPT dots for StoreSEO

Skip this if ChatGPT dots is already connected. The full guide, with the alternatives, is on the ChatGPT dots page.

  1. 1

Create the StoreSEO app in ChatGPT

OpenAI's help center says plugins are shared across dots and ChatGPT, so you set StoreSEO up once. In ChatGPT on the web, turn on Developer mode under Settings, Security and login, open Plugins, select the plus button and create an app named StoreSEO with this MCP server URL and OAuth. Sign in when the browser asks: pick your Shopify store and approve access. If ChatGPT already has the StoreSEO app, skip this step.

  2. 2

Make sure your dot can see it

Open your dot's profile, then Customize and Plugins, and check StoreSEO is connected. Then give your dot a first task that names StoreSEO.

    Prompt
Using StoreSEO, show me my store's SEO score breakdown.

How does this work in ChatGPT dots?

Schema settings rarely change, which is why drift is easy to miss: a theme update, a plan change or a teammate flipping a type off, and your products quietly stop emitting review markup. A dot is a decent watchman for that. Give it a monthly task that calls storeseo_list_schema_types and reports each type, whether it is enabled and whether it is configurable. For the configurable ones, product, review, product_merchant, organization and local_business, it can add storeseo_get_schema_settings and note what is filled in and what is empty. Every call is a read, and it costs no credit.

Changing settings is trickier than it sounds, and the tool says why. storeseo_update_schema_settings replaces the stored settings object wholesale, with no merge, so the agent has to read the current settings first, edit the whole object using the field template and send it back. Some types depend on others: review, sale_dates and product_merchant need the product schema enabled first, and organization, local_business and product_merchant need a complete settings object in the same call. The four FAQ types need the FAQ Schema feature in your plan or the call is rejected.

That level of care suits a conversation, where the dot can show you the object it is about to send and wait for your answer. On a timer it would send a replacement object nobody reviewed. So let the scheduled task say what is on and what is missing, and make the edit in chat.

  1. You: Using StoreSEO, which schema types are enabled on my store?

  2. storeseo_list_schema_types read-only
  3. storeseo_get_schema_settings read-only
  4. ChatGPT dots: Product and organization are on. Review is off and local_business has no settings. Review needs product schema, which is on. Enable review schema? I will send the full settings object back.

  5. You: Yes, enable review.

  6. storeseo_update_schema_settings needs approval
  7. ChatGPT dots: Review schema is enabled. Local business still needs its address fields before it can be switched on.

What to ask ChatGPT dots

Prompt 1
On the first of each month, use StoreSEO to list my schema types and tell me which are off or half-configured. Report only.
Prompt 2
Read the product schema settings, show me the full object, and propose the change before you send anything.
Prompt 3
Enable review schema after checking product schema is on, and tell me what else it depends on.
  • Which JSON-LD schema types are enabled on my store?
  • Set up organization schema with my business name, logo and contact email. Read the current settings first.
  • Turn on product schema and review schema.
  • Is local business schema configured? Show me what is missing.
  • Enable FAQ schema for products if my plan includes it.

What StoreSEO does: structured data (json-ld)

StoreSEO adds JSON-LD schema to your storefront so search engines and AI assistants can read your products, business and FAQs as data. The agent lists every schema type, reads a type's settings and its field template, and sends back a complete settings object.

Requires: The FAQ schema types need the FAQ Schema feature in your plan.

  1. 1

    List the schema types

The agent lists every type with whether it is on and whether it takes settings. Configurable types are product, review, sale dates, product merchant, organization and local business.

  2. 2

    Read before writing

For a configurable type it reads the current settings and the field template, because an update replaces the whole settings object rather than merging into it.

  3. 3

    Fill in your details

Business name, address, contact details and similar fields come from you. Organization and local business share the same business information, so changing one changes both.

  4. 4

    Switch it on

After your yes the agent sends the complete settings with the status. Organization, local business and product merchant need complete settings to be enabled.

Rules ChatGPT dots follows

  • The agent reads the current settings before every settings update, because the update replaces them wholesale.
  • Business details come from you; the agent does not invent an address, phone number or opening hours.
  • Turning a schema type on or off changes your live storefront markup, so the agent confirms the change first.
  • When a type is refused for a missing plan feature or dependency, the agent says which one rather than retrying.

In ChatGPT dots

Settings sent to storeseo_update_schema_settings replace what is stored, so an agent that skips the read can wipe fields you configured. A dot working unattended is the worst place for that. Keep the scheduled task to storeseo_list_schema_types and storeseo_get_schema_settings, and make edits in a chat where the object is shown first. The FAQ schema types are rejected on plans without the FAQ Schema feature, even for switching them off.

What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Questions

Can a ChatGPT dot fix my schema settings on its own?

It can read them on a schedule, and that is what we would give it. Updates replace the whole settings object, so edits belong in a chat where the dot reads first and shows you the object.

Why was my schema change rejected?

Usually a prerequisite is missing: review, sale_dates and product_merchant need product schema enabled, some types need complete settings, and the FAQ types need the FAQ Schema feature in your plan.

What schema types can StoreSEO add to my store?

StoreSEO manages product, review, sale dates, product merchant, organization and local business schema with settings, plus toggle-only types such as the FAQ types for products, collections, articles and pages.

Why does the agent read my schema settings before changing them?

A settings update replaces the whole stored object instead of merging. Reading first and sending back the complete object is the only way to change one field without wiping the others.

Why was review schema refused?

Review, sale dates and product merchant schema depend on product schema. Turn product schema on first, then enable the dependent type.

Do I need a particular plan for FAQ schema?

Yes. The four FAQ schema types need the FAQ Schema feature in your StoreSEO plan. Without it, any change to them is refused with a message saying the feature is not in your plan.
