How to Connect StoreSEO MCP to ChatGPT dots
A ChatGPT dot is one of OpenAI’s always-on agents inside ChatGPT. According to OpenAI’s help center, a dot has its own cloud computer, memory, and the apps you choose to connect. You give it a goal, set what it may do on its own, and it keeps making progress between conversations and brings results back for your review.
This guide connects ChatGPT dots to the StoreSEO MCP server at https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp. Once connected, ChatGPT dots can read your Shopify store’s SEO scores and settings and, when you agree, apply optimized meta, alt text, schema and other SEO changes. For what to ask once you are set up, see StoreSEO for ChatGPT dots.
Before You Start
- Server URL:
https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp - Sign-in: You sign in with StoreSEO once, in the browser: pick your Shopify store and approve access. Your dot uses the same ChatGPT plugin, and ChatGPT can register itself through dynamic client registration, so there is no token to paste.
- Plan: The MCP server works on any active StoreSEO plan, including the free plan. A store with no active plan gets a message with a link to choose one in the app.
- Access token (if you need one): create it in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit. Treat it like a password.
Connect StoreSEO to ChatGPT dots
Step 1: Create the StoreSEO app in ChatGPT
OpenAI’s help center says plugins are shared across dots and ChatGPT, so you set StoreSEO up once. In ChatGPT on the web, turn on Developer mode under Settings, Security and login, open Plugins, select the plus button and create an app named StoreSEO with this MCP server URL and OAuth. Sign in when the browser asks: pick your Shopify store and approve access. If ChatGPT already has the StoreSEO app, skip this step.

Step 2: Make sure your dot can see it
Open your dot’s profile, then Customize and Plugins, and check StoreSEO is connected. Then give your dot a first task that names StoreSEO.
Using StoreSEO, show me my store's SEO score breakdown.
Other Ways to Connect
Option: Ask a workspace admin to publish it
On a Business workspace only an admin or owner can turn on developer mode and publish the app, and on Enterprise and Edu an admin has to grant you access first. The controls sit under Settings, Apps. Give the admin the same URL, then start at the previous step once the app is published.

Check the Connection
Start a new session and send this prompt. ChatGPT dots should call StoreSEO and answer with your store’s real SEO score.
Using StoreSEO, show me my store's SEO score breakdown.
What to Ask ChatGPT dots
- Using StoreSEO, what is my store’s SEO score and what are the three biggest problems?
- Every Monday, use StoreSEO to list products scoring under 50 and send me the list. Report only and change nothing.
- Check whether my llms.txt is live and up to date, and tell me what generating a new one would change before you do anything.
- Using StoreSEO, which images have no alt text? Preview alt text for five of them.
- Once a month, pull my Search Console queries for the last 28 days and summarize where we rank between 8 and 20.
How Approvals Work
Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client’s own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Things to Know About ChatGPT dots
- Developer mode and write actions depend on your plan and workspace. OpenAI’s developer guide lists developer mode for Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts on the web. OpenAI’s help center, as we read it, puts full MCP support with write actions in beta on Business, Enterprise and Edu and gives Pro accounts read access only.
- On a Business workspace only an admin or owner can turn on developer mode and publish the app, and on Enterprise and Edu you need access granted by an admin. If you do not see the setting under Settings, Security and login, ask your admin.
- A scheduled task has no one watching it. Write it as report only: StoreSEO tells the agent to preview and wait for your yes, but that yes is an instruction, and a task paired with a rule that takes actions without asking could apply changes unattended.
- Generated previews spend AI Content Optimizer credit, so a recurring task that previews content every week uses credit every week. Keep scheduled work to reads unless you want that spend.
Run SEO checks on a schedule with your dot
OpenAI’s help center describes Scheduled Tasks that run once, repeat or monitor for changes. Ask your dot in plain words what to check, when, and where to report, and keep the task to reads: scores, image status, setup and Google reports. A scheduled run is unattended, so there is nobody to say yes to a change. StoreSEO tells the agent to preview and wait for your yes before it writes, spends credit or publishes, but that is an instruction, so word the task as report only and keep your custom rules set to ask before any action that changes your store.
Every Monday at 8:00, use StoreSEO to list my lowest-scoring products, any images without alt text and whether my llms.txt is live, and send me a short report. Report only and change nothing. If StoreSEO is unreachable, tell me instead of reusing last week's data.
Disconnect
Remove the StoreSEO server in ChatGPT dots, then revoke the connection or the access token in the StoreSEO app under Settings, AI Toolkit, where every connected client is listed.
