- 1
Add StoreSEO as a custom connector
In Cowork, open Customize, then Connectors, choose + Add and then Add custom connector. If you already added StoreSEO to your Claude account, look for it in that list first. Use this URL.

Approve your store and check it
Sign in when the browser opens: pick your Shopify store and approve access. Then start a task and ask this first, so you know the connector works before you delegate real work.
PromptUse StoreSEO to show me my store's SEO score breakdown.
How does this work in Claude Cowork?
You give Cowork a task in plain words, for instance review how my tracked keywords moved this week and flag anything that left the top ten. Cowork calls storeseo_start, reads storeseo_list_keywords for the latest position, change, SERP features and competitor positions, and calls storeseo_get_keyword_history for any keyword that moved. The result is a written summary you can read, edit and reuse. This is the part of keyword tracking that suits Cowork best, because it is repeatable, read-only and needs no decision from you in the middle.
Changing the keyword list is different. When you ask Cowork to track a new term, it looks up the exact market with storeseo_list_rank_locations and storeseo_list_rank_languages, says what it will add and waits for your yes before storeseo_add_keywords, which counts against your plan's keyword limit. Deleting a keyword or competitor erases its history for good, so do that only while you are in the conversation. Rank and competitor tools need the Pro plan, and a keyword added now shows its first position only after the background check completes.
Cowork documents scheduled tasks that run on a cadence and can use connected apps, which makes a Monday rank summary easy to set up. A scheduled run has nobody in the conversation to say yes, so write the task as read-only and tell it not to add, delete or generate anything. A cluster, which spends AI credit and waits for your yes on the estimate, belongs in a task you start yourself rather than in a schedule.
-
You: Summarize this week's keyword movement and add nothing.
- storeseo_start read-only
- storeseo_list_keywords read-only
- storeseo_get_keyword_history read-only
-
Claude Cowork: Three keywords improved and one fell from position 8 to 14, while a competitor rose on it. Two newer keywords are still waiting on their first check. Want me to look up United Kingdom and English so I can propose a market for a new keyword?
-
You: Yes, then propose one.
- storeseo_list_rank_locations read-only
-
Claude Cowork: United Kingdom is an exact match. I will report back with the keyword and device for you to approve before I add anything.
What to ask Claude Cowork
Use StoreSEO to summarize how my tracked keywords moved this week, with competitor positions. Do not change anything.
Every Monday, read my tracked keywords and write a short rank summary. Do not add, delete or generate anything.
Track organic cotton tote bag in the United Kingdom, English, on desktop. Show me what you will add and wait for my yes.
- Track shopify linen shirts and linen shirt for men in the United States on mobile.
- How have my tracked keywords moved this month, and where do my competitors rank?
- Show the rank history for organic cotton tote since July.
- Add example-competitor.com as a competitor.
- Build a keyword cluster for my best seller and tell me the estimated credit first.
- Which tracked keywords dropped out of the top ten?
What StoreSEO does: keyword rank tracking
StoreSEO checks your Google rank for tracked keywords by country, language and device, records the history and compares competitor domains. Keyword clusters group related keywords around a product's focus keyword with search volume and difficulty.
Requires: Rank and competitor tracking are Pro plan tools. Keyword clusters spend AI Content Optimizer credit.
- 1
Pick the market
The agent looks up the exact country and language names the tracker accepts, because new keywords must use them verbatim.
- 2
Add keywords
After your yes it adds keywords with a country, language and device. Checks run in the background, so positions appear later.
- 3
Read ranks and history
It lists your keywords with the latest Google position, change, SERP features and competitor positions, and reads the dated history for any keyword.
- 4
Compare competitors
Up to five competitor domains are tracked alongside your keywords. To change one, it is deleted and the new domain added.
- 5
Build a cluster
For a product with a focus keyword, StoreSEO generates a cluster of related keywords in the background; the agent states the estimated credit first and polls until it is ready.

Rules Claude Cowork follows
- On a plan without rank tracking, the agent explains the upgrade instead of calling the rank tools.
- Country and language names come from the lookup tools, never typed from memory.
- Deleting a keyword or competitor erases its history for good, so the agent confirms each one.
- A cluster needs a focus keyword set in the StoreSEO app; the agent states the estimated credit and waits for your yes.
In Claude Cowork
A scheduled Cowork task runs without you in the conversation, so nobody is there to approve a write. Keep a scheduled StoreSEO task to reads such as storeseo_list_keywords and storeseo_get_keyword_history, and say in the prompt that it must not add keywords, delete anything or build a cluster. Scheduled tasks cannot be tied to a local folder either, so the summary lands in Cowork rather than a file on your machine. If StoreSEO is missing in Cowork, look under Customize, Connectors there.
What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Questions
Can Claude Cowork check my keyword rankings on a schedule?
Anthropic documents scheduled tasks in Cowork that use connected apps. Make the StoreSEO task read-only, so it lists keywords and history and writes a summary, and tell it not to add or delete keywords because nobody is there to say yes.
Will a scheduled Cowork task add keywords for me?
It should not. Adding keywords counts against your keyword limit and StoreSEO tells the agent to wait for your yes, which a scheduled run cannot give. Add keywords in a conversation you are present in.
Which plan do I need for keyword tracking through an agent?
Rank tracking and competitor tracking are Pro plan tools. On other plans the agent should explain that instead of calling them. Keyword clusters work on plans with AI Content Optimizer credit.
Does StoreSEO track rankings in AI search engines?
No. The rank tracker checks Google results by country, language and device. AI visibility is handled by the GEO score, llms.txt and agents.md jobs instead.
Why are new keywords pending?
Rank checks run in the background. Adding a keyword queues the first check, and its position appears in the keyword list once that check completes.
What is a keyword cluster?
A group of related keywords built around a product's focus keyword, sorted by search volume and scored for relevance and difficulty. It shows which wider terms the product page can target.
