Write SEO blog post drafts with Claude Cowork

Writing blog post drafts with Claude Cowork means handing Anthropic's delegated-work agent a content brief, letting it drive StoreSEO to produce a draft article in your Shopify blog, and reviewing the result instead of supervising each step.

Set up Claude Cowork for StoreSEO

Skip this if Claude Cowork is already connected. The full guide, with the alternatives, is on the Claude Cowork page.

  1. 1

Add StoreSEO as a custom connector

In Cowork, open Customize, then Connectors, choose + Add and then Add custom connector. If you already added StoreSEO to your Claude account, look for it in that list first. Use this URL.

    URL
    https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp
  2. 2

Approve your store and check it

Sign in when the browser opens: pick your Shopify store and approve access. Then start a task and ask this first, so you know the connector works before you delegate real work.

    Prompt
Use StoreSEO to show me my store's SEO score breakdown.

How does this work in Claude Cowork?

In Cowork you describe the task rather than hold a conversation: write two drafts for my News blog from this list of topics, and tell me what each will cost first. Cowork opens a StoreSEO session with storeseo_start, calls storeseo_list_blogs for the blog id, and then comes back to you with the plan and the AI credit it expects to spend. This is the point where StoreSEO tells the agent to wait for your yes, and where Cowork's own permission step for the write tool applies.

Once you agree, Cowork calls storeseo_generate_blog_post and then polls storeseo_get_blog_post_job. The writing takes a few minutes, which suits Cowork's style of working through a task on its own while you do something else. When a job completes, Cowork can read each draft's SEO record with storeseo_get_resource_seo and give you a short review: which post is ready, what the SEO checklist flags, and where the draft sits in the blog. You then open Shopify admin to edit and publish.

Cowork also runs scheduled tasks, and this job is a place to be careful with them. Writing a post spends credit and needs your yes, and nobody is there to give it at three in the morning. A scheduled task can still do the safe half: list your blogs, read your existing articles with storeseo_list_resources, and send you a list of topic ideas for you to approve and start in a live session.

Claude Cowork + StoreSEO Illustrative session
  1. You: Write a draft on caring for linen shirts for the News blog, about 1,200 words.

  2. storeseo_start read-only
  3. storeseo_list_blogs read-only
  4. Claude Cowork: I can write it into News as a draft. It will spend AI credit based on the length. Can I start the generation?

  5. You: Yes, start it.

  6. storeseo_generate_blog_post needs approval
  7. storeseo_get_blog_post_job read-only
  8. Claude Cowork: The job is still running, 4 of 5 steps done. I will tell you when the draft is ready to review in Shopify admin.

What to ask Claude Cowork

Prompt 1
Use StoreSEO to list my blogs and propose five post topics. Do not generate anything.
Prompt 2
Write a draft on how to care for linen shirts for my News blog, about 1,200 words. Tell me the AI credit cost and wait for my yes before you start.
Prompt 3
Check the state of the blog post job you started, and when it is done review the draft's SEO record and summarize it for me.
  • List my blogs and write a 1,200 word draft on how to care for linen shirts in the News blog. Tell me the cost first.
  • Write a draft post targeting best gifts for coffee lovers, with a featured image.
  • How far along is the blog post you started?
  • Check the SEO score of the draft you just wrote.
  • Draft three post ideas for my store and write the strongest one.

What StoreSEO does: blog post drafts

StoreSEO writes a full blog post with AI and saves it as a draft article in the Shopify blog you choose, optionally with a featured image. Nothing is published: you review and publish from Shopify admin.

Requires: Spends AI Content Optimizer credit; the cost grows with word count and a featured image. Blogs must be synced in the StoreSEO app.

  1. 1

    Pick the blog

The agent lists your synced blogs, the sections posts go into, with their ids. An empty list means the blogs need syncing in the StoreSEO app first.

  2. 2

    Agree the brief and cost

Topic, keyword, length and whether to add a featured image. The cost grows with length and the image, so the agent tells you and waits for your yes.

  3. 3

    Generate in the background

Writing takes a few minutes. The agent polls the job and reports progress, and does not present the post as finished while it runs.

  4. 4

    Check the draft

When the job completes, the agent can read the draft article's SEO record. You review and publish the post from Shopify admin.

Blog post drafts reference

Output A draft article in the chosen Shopify blog, never published live
Featured image Optional; uploaded with the draft and adds to the cost
Run time A few minutes in the background
Insufficient credit The call fails before anything is queued or spent
Blogs Only blogs synced with StoreSEO are listed; syncing is done in the app
Failed runs The job reports the error and credits are settled automatically

Rules Claude Cowork follows

  • The agent states the expected credit use and waits for your yes before it starts a post.
  • Posts are saved as drafts only; publishing is done by you in Shopify admin.
  • While the job runs, the agent reports progress and never presents the draft as finished.

In Claude Cowork

A scheduled Cowork task runs without you in the conversation, so it cannot wait for the yes that StoreSEO tells the agent to get before a credit-spending run. Keep scheduled tasks to reads such as listing blogs and suggesting topics, and tell the task in plain words not to generate, publish or delete anything. Start the actual post in a session where you are present to approve the cost. A connector added to Claude elsewhere may not appear in Cowork, so check Customize, Connectors inside Cowork first.

What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Questions

Can a Claude Cowork scheduled task write a blog post for me every week?

It is not a good fit. Writing a post spends AI credit and StoreSEO tells the agent to wait for your yes, which a scheduled task cannot receive. Schedule a report-only task that suggests topics and start the post yourself.

Does Cowork publish the post when the job finishes?

No. The result is a draft article in your Shopify blog. You review and publish it from Shopify admin.

Will the agent publish a blog post on my store?

No. StoreSEO saves generated posts as drafts in the Shopify blog you choose. You review and publish them from Shopify admin.

How long does a blog post take?

A few minutes. The writing runs in the background and the agent checks the job until it is completed, failed or cancelled.

What does a blog post cost?

It spends AI Content Optimizer credit, and the amount grows with the word count and with a featured image. If you do not have enough credit the call fails before anything is spent.

Why does the agent say I have no blogs?

Only blogs synced with StoreSEO are listed. Sync your blogs in the StoreSEO app, then ask again.
