Write SEO blog post drafts with Paperclip

Drafting blog posts from Paperclip means giving an agent a content ticket that has StoreSEO write a full SEO post into a Shopify blog as a draft, with the credit cost agreed on the task and publishing left to you in Shopify admin.

Set up Paperclip for StoreSEO

Skip this if Paperclip is already connected. The full guide, with the alternatives, is on the Paperclip page.

  1. 1

Add StoreSEO to the agent Paperclip runs

Run this on the machine that hosts the agent, as the same OS user the Paperclip heartbeat runs as, from the agent's working directory. It is the claude_local adapter path, and user scope makes StoreSEO available to every Claude Code agent that user runs.

    terminal
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user storeseo https://mcp.storeseo.com/mcp
  2. 2

Sign in once, then let Paperclip run headless

Start claude interactively as that same user, run /mcp, choose storeseo and finish the browser sign-in: pick your Shopify store and approve. Claude Code keeps the credentials, so later Paperclip runs need no browser. Check with claude mcp get storeseo.

How does this work in Paperclip?

Blog drafting suits Paperclip's way of working because it is slow, queued and reviewed by a person. The ticket carries the brief: topic, target keyword, word count and whether to add a featured image. The agent calls storeseo_list_blogs to find the numeric id of the blog the post should go into. An empty list means your blogs are not synced yet, which you fix in the StoreSEO app. Then it states the expected AI credit, which grows with length and a featured image, and asks. Only after your reply does it call storeseo_generate_blog_post, and if credit is short the call fails before anything is queued or spent.

Writing runs in the background for a few minutes, so the agent polls storeseo_get_blog_post_job and comments progress as steps completed out of steps total. It should not call the post finished while the job runs, since the draft article row exists from the start. This is a place where Paperclip's heartbeats help: a run that polls within one wake can post the completed status on the ticket without you watching. When the job completes, the agent reads the draft's SEO score with storeseo_get_resource_seo and links it.

Publishing is not part of this job. The post is a draft in your Shopify blog, and the person who reads the draft and publishes it from Shopify admin is you or an editor on your team. Name that person on the ticket, so the finished task has a clear next owner.

Paperclip + StoreSEO Illustrative session
  1. You: Ticket: draft a 1,200 word post on caring for linen shirts, with a featured image, in the News blog.

  2. storeseo_list_blogs read-only
  3. Paperclip: News is synced. A 1,200 word post with a featured image spends AI credit that grows with both, and it is saved as a draft only. Start the draft in the News blog?

  4. You: Yes, start it.

  5. storeseo_generate_blog_post needs approval
  6. storeseo_get_blog_post_job read-only
  7. Paperclip: The job is still running, so the draft is not finished. I will report when it completes; you review and publish it from Shopify admin.

What StoreSEO does: blog post drafts

StoreSEO writes a full blog post with AI and saves it as a draft article in the Shopify blog you choose, optionally with a featured image. Nothing is published: you review and publish from Shopify admin.

Requires: Spends AI Content Optimizer credit; the cost grows with word count and a featured image. Blogs must be synced in the StoreSEO app.

  1. 1

    Pick the blog

The agent lists your synced blogs, the sections posts go into, with their ids. An empty list means the blogs need syncing in the StoreSEO app first.

  2. 2

    Agree the brief and cost

Topic, keyword, length and whether to add a featured image. The cost grows with length and the image, so the agent tells you and waits for your yes.

  3. 3

    Generate in the background

Writing takes a few minutes. The agent polls the job and reports progress, and does not present the post as finished while it runs.

  4. 4

    Check the draft

When the job completes, the agent can read the draft article's SEO record. You review and publish the post from Shopify admin.

Blog post drafts reference

Output A draft article in the chosen Shopify blog, never published live
Featured image Optional; uploaded with the draft and adds to the cost
Run time A few minutes in the background
Insufficient credit The call fails before anything is queued or spent
Blogs Only blogs synced with StoreSEO are listed; syncing is done in the app
Failed runs The job reports the error and credits are settled automatically

Rules Paperclip follows

  • The agent states the expected credit use and waits for your yes before it starts a post.
  • Posts are saved as drafts only; publishing is done by you in Shopify admin.
  • While the job runs, the agent reports progress and never presents the draft as finished.

In Paperclip

A routine that writes a post on every run will spend AI credit on every run, and with the Claude Code adapter's default of skipping permission prompts nobody is asked first. Do not schedule storeseo_generate_blog_post. Schedule a routine that suggests topics or checks an earlier job's status, and start each real draft as a task where you state the word count and image choice, so the cost is one you chose.

What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Questions

Will a Paperclip agent publish the blog post to my store?

No. StoreSEO saves the generated post as a draft in the Shopify blog you choose, and nothing goes live. You or an editor reviews it and publishes from Shopify admin.

How do I keep blog drafting inside the AI credit I have?

Put the word count and image choice in the ticket and have the agent state the expected credit before it starts. If your credit is not enough, the call fails before anything is queued or spent, and the agent should report that on the task.

Will the agent publish a blog post on my store?

No. StoreSEO saves generated posts as drafts in the Shopify blog you choose. You review and publish them from Shopify admin.

How long does a blog post take?

A few minutes. The writing runs in the background and the agent checks the job until it is completed, failed or cancelled.

What does a blog post cost?

It spends AI Content Optimizer credit, and the amount grows with the word count and with a featured image. If you do not have enough credit the call fails before anything is spent.

Why does the agent say I have no blogs?

Only blogs synced with StoreSEO are listed. Sync your blogs in the StoreSEO app, then ask again.
