  1. 1

Add StoreSEO as a custom connector

In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, choose + Add and then Add custom connector. Name it StoreSEO and paste this URL as the remote MCP server URL.

How does this work in Claude?

You sit in a Claude chat tab, on the web or in Claude Desktop, with the StoreSEO connector switched on in the Search and Tools menu. You type something like write a post about caring for linen shirts for the News blog. Claude calls storeseo_start first to open the session, then storeseo_list_blogs to find the numeric id of the blog the post should go into. Both are reads, so they run straight away and you see them listed as tool calls in the conversation.

Before it writes anything Claude should come back with the brief in words: the topic, the keyword it plans to target, the length, whether you want a featured image, and what that will cost in AI credit. StoreSEO tells the agent to do this because the cost grows with word count and with the image. When you say yes, Claude calls storeseo_generate_blog_post, and Claude's own permission card for that write tool appears as well. Generation runs in the background for a few minutes, so Claude polls storeseo_get_blog_post_job and tells you how many steps are done out of the total, rather than calling the post finished early.

When the job completes, Claude can read the draft with storeseo_get_resource_seo using the article id from the job result and summarize its SEO record in the chat. The post itself is a draft in Shopify, so you open the blog in Shopify admin, read it, edit what you want and press publish yourself. A chat is a good place to iterate on the brief: ask Claude for three angles first, pick one, and only then agree the cost.

Claude + StoreSEO Illustrative session
  1. You: Write a draft about caring for linen shirts in my News blog, about 1,200 words, with a featured image.

  2. storeseo_start read-only
  3. storeseo_list_blogs read-only
  4. Claude: I found the News blog. A 1,200 word post with a featured image will spend more AI credit than a text-only one. Shall I start it?

  5. You: Yes, go ahead.

  6. storeseo_generate_blog_post needs approval
  7. storeseo_get_blog_post_job read-only
  8. Claude: The job is at 3 of 5 steps. I will keep checking and tell you when the draft is in Shopify. You publish it from Shopify admin.

What to ask Claude

Prompt 1
Use StoreSEO to list my blogs, then propose three post ideas for my store. Do not write anything yet.
Prompt 2
Write a 1,200 word draft on how to care for linen shirts in my News blog, with a featured image. Tell me the credit cost and wait for my yes.
Prompt 3
How far along is the post you started? Once it is done, check the SEO record of the draft and tell me what to improve.
  • List my blogs and write a 1,200 word draft on how to care for linen shirts in the News blog. Tell me the cost first.
  • Write a draft post targeting best gifts for coffee lovers, with a featured image.
  • How far along is the blog post you started?
  • Check the SEO score of the draft you just wrote.
  • Draft three post ideas for my store and write the strongest one.

What StoreSEO does: blog post drafts

StoreSEO writes a full blog post with AI and saves it as a draft article in the Shopify blog you choose, optionally with a featured image. Nothing is published: you review and publish from Shopify admin.

Requires: Spends AI Content Optimizer credit; the cost grows with word count and a featured image. Blogs must be synced in the StoreSEO app.

  1. 1

    Pick the blog

The agent lists your synced blogs, the sections posts go into, with their ids. An empty list means the blogs need syncing in the StoreSEO app first.

  2. 2

    Agree the brief and cost

Topic, keyword, length and whether to add a featured image. The cost grows with length and the image, so the agent tells you and waits for your yes.

  3. 3

    Generate in the background

Writing takes a few minutes. The agent polls the job and reports progress, and does not present the post as finished while it runs.

  4. 4

    Check the draft

When the job completes, the agent can read the draft article's SEO record. You review and publish the post from Shopify admin.

Blog post drafts reference

Output A draft article in the chosen Shopify blog, never published live
Featured image Optional; uploaded with the draft and adds to the cost
Run time A few minutes in the background
Insufficient credit The call fails before anything is queued or spent
Blogs Only blogs synced with StoreSEO are listed; syncing is done in the app
Failed runs The job reports the error and credits are settled automatically

Rules Claude follows

  • The agent states the expected credit use and waits for your yes before it starts a post.
  • Posts are saved as drafts only; publishing is done by you in Shopify admin.
  • While the job runs, the agent reports progress and never presents the draft as finished.

In Claude

Generation takes a few minutes and a chat only moves when you or Claude send a message, so the polling happens while Claude is working on your turn. If you close the tab or switch conversations before it reports back, the job still runs in StoreSEO. Open the conversation again, or look in the blog in Shopify admin, and ask Claude to check the job by its job id. Claude's prompt for the generate tool is the hard stop, so keep that tool on ask rather than Allow always.

What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.

Why does Claude say I have no blogs to write into?
