Read Search Console and Analytics with ChatGPT
Pulling Google reports with ChatGPT means asking OpenAI's assistant about your clicks, queries and visitors and letting it read Search Console and GA4 through the StoreSEO app you added in developer mode, then explain the changes in a chat.

Set up ChatGPT for StoreSEO
Skip this if ChatGPT is already connected. The full guide, with the alternatives, is on the ChatGPT page.
- 1
Turn on developer mode
In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode. If your menu shows Apps and Connectors with Advanced settings instead, the same switch lives there. OpenAI lists developer mode for Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts on the web.

Create the app with the StoreSEO MCP URL
Open Plugins and select the plus button to create a developer-mode app. Name it StoreSEO, paste this as the MCP server URL and choose OAuth. Sign in when the browser asks: pick your Shopify store and approve access.

Use it in a chat
The app appears in the composer's Developer mode tool during conversations. Select StoreSEO there, then ask this to confirm the connection works.
PromptUsing the StoreSEO app, show me my store's SEO score breakdown.
How does this work in ChatGPT?
You open a ChatGPT conversation where the StoreSEO app is enabled and ask for the report in plain words, for example which pages gained impressions this month. ChatGPT calls storeseo_start to open the session, then storeseo_get_search_console_insights with the page dimension and the date range you named, and shows the tool call in the thread so you can open the request and response. The tool returns summary totals, the top rows by clicks and the per-metric change against the previous period, and ChatGPT turns that into a short read of what moved.
For visitor behavior it calls storeseo_get_analytics_report. The report type decides the bundle: search_traffic and user_activity return rows by date, while demographics, page_performance, traffic_source and key_events return paginated rows with a totals summary. ChatGPT is comfortable with the follow-up that makes the two sources useful together, such as taking the pages with the most Search Console impressions and checking how GA4 says those pages performed, and it can present the result as a table or a short ranked list.
Both Google tools are read-only and carry the read-only annotation, which OpenAI's documentation says ChatGPT uses to tell reads from writes, so a report session should not raise the write confirmation you see for applying content. That makes ChatGPT a fine place to review Google performance even on a plan where write actions are not available to you, and you can take any fix it finds to the StoreSEO app or to an agent that can apply it.
-
You: How did Google search perform for my store over the last 28 days?
- storeseo_start read-only
- storeseo_get_search_console_insights read-only
-
ChatGPT: Illustrative result: clicks are up against the previous 28 days while average position slipped slightly. Impressions grew most in the United States. Want this broken down by device, or the GA4 organic traffic for the same range?
-
You: Show GA4 organic traffic over time.
- storeseo_get_analytics_report read-only
What to ask ChatGPT
Using StoreSEO, show my Search Console clicks and impressions by country for the last 28 days and compare with the previous period.
Which of my product pages have more than a thousand impressions and a CTR below two percent? List them with average position.
Give me the GA4 key events report for last month and tell me which traffic source led to the most of them.
- Which queries brought the most clicks from Google in the last 28 days, and how does that compare with the month before?
- Which product pages have high impressions but a CTR under two percent?
- Show organic search traffic from GA4 for the last three months.
- Which countries send the most visitors, and on which devices?
- Which traffic sources led to purchases last month?
What StoreSEO does: search console and analytics reports
StoreSEO connects to your Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 property. The agent reads Search Console performance by date, query, page, country, device or search appearance, and curated GA4 reports, each compared with the previous period by default.
Requires: A paid StoreSEO plan with Google connected in the app, and a GA4 property selected for Analytics reports.
- 1
Pick the question
Search Console answers how you appear in Google: clicks, impressions, CTR and average position. GA4 answers what visitors do: users, engagement, pages, sources and key events.
- 2
Read the report
The agent reads the last 28 days by default, or the range you name, broken down by the dimension that fits the question.
- 3
Compare periods
Both reports include the previous period of the same length and the change per metric unless you ask otherwise.
- 4
Turn it into actions
The agent can link what it finds to the other jobs, for example pages with impressions but a low CTR are candidates for new meta.

Rules ChatGPT follows
- Both tools are reads and run straight away.
- Connecting Google or choosing the GA4 property is done in the StoreSEO app; the agent hands you the link when it is missing.
- Numbers are reported as Google returns them; the agent does not project outcomes from them.
In ChatGPT
StoreSEO reaches ChatGPT through developer mode, which OpenAI lists under Settings, Security and login, and which you may not see on some plans or in a workspace where an admin has not enabled it. OpenAI describes the exact plan rules for write actions differently in different places, but reports are reads, so a report-only use of StoreSEO does not depend on write access. The Google tools still need a paid StoreSEO plan with Google connected and a GA4 property chosen in the app, and ChatGPT cannot connect Google for you.
What runs without asking. Reads such as SEO scores, store listings, settings and Google reports run straight away. Generating a preview spends AI credit but writes nothing, and StoreSEO tells the agent to say what a generation will cost before it runs one. Applying content, optimizing images, changing settings, publishing llms.txt or agents.md, writing a product description and deleting anything wait for your yes in the conversation. That yes is an instruction the agent follows, not a lock on the server, so your client's own tool-approval setting is the hard stop.
Questions
Do I need ChatGPT write actions to read Search Console and GA4 reports?
No. Both Google report tools are reads, so they work for reporting even if your ChatGPT plan only gives read access to connected apps. Applying changes is a separate step and is where write actions matter.
Why does ChatGPT say Google is not connected?
Because the StoreSEO app has no Search Console or GA4 connection for your store yet. Connect Google and pick the GA4 property in the StoreSEO app on a paid plan, then ask ChatGPT again.
Can the agent connect my Google account?
No. Connecting Search Console and Google Analytics, and choosing the GA4 property, is done in the StoreSEO app. If Google is not connected, the tool returns a link telling you what to set up.
Can these reports change anything?
No. Both Google tools are read-only. They never connect, configure or write anything in Google or in your store.
Which plan includes Google reports over MCP?
A paid StoreSEO plan with Google connected. Analytics reports also need a GA4 property selected in the app.
How far back can the agent look?
You can name any date range the report supports. When you do not, both tools default to the last 28 days and compare it with the 28 days before.
